Pulsar — Gustavo Cerati | Music & Rising Star Stats

After about five months without posting in this section, I’m back today with one of these music posts that I used to do fairly regularly for quite some time. The idea is still pretty much the same: to share a song I like, explain a little about how I came to discover it, and add some fun facts.

During this time, my Spotify playlist kept growing quite a bit, mainly because I kept finding new songs and rediscovering others I hadn't listened to in a long time. So after several months, I figured it was a good time to pick up this section again.

Pulsar — Gustavo Cerati

My musical choice for this post is “Pulsar” by Gustavo Cerati, a song from Amor Amarillo, one of my favorite albums from his entire solo career.

As I’ve mentioned before, much of my love for Argentine rock comes from the music I listened to at home as a kid. Over the years, I ended up exploring many of those artists on my own, and obviously Cerati was one of the ones I ended up listening to the most—both for his work with Soda Stereo and his solo career.

Amor Amarillo has always been one of my favorite albums by Cerati. It has a very distinctive sound, quite different from much of what he’d done previously with Soda Stereo, featuring much more laid-back and experimental songs.

“Pulsar” is far from being my favorite song on the album, mainly because there are other tracks that I personally enjoy much more, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t measure up to the rest of an album that I consider excellent.

The song is part of Amor Amarillo, released in 1993 and considered Gustavo Cerati’s first official solo album. It was recorded during a period when he was still a member of Soda Stereo.

For me, it’s one of those albums where even the songs that aren’t among my favorites still maintain a pretty high standard. “Pulsar” is precisely one of those cases, which is why I thought it would be interesting to include it in these posts as well.
