Hate Me Now — Nas feat. Diddy | Music & Rising Star Stats

After about five months without posting in this section, I’m back today with one of these music posts that I used to do fairly regularly for quite some time. The idea is still pretty much the same: to share a song I like, explain a little about how I came to discover it, and add some fun facts.

During this time, my Spotify playlist kept growing quite a bit, mainly because I kept finding new songs and rediscovering others I hadn't listened to in a long time. So after several months, I figured it was a good time to pick up this section again.

Hate Me Now — Nas feat. Diddy

My musical choice for this post is “Hate Me Now” by Nas featuring Diddy, another track that’s part of a phase when I began exploring ’90s hip-hop much more deeply.

As I mentioned earlier, my interest in the genre came back with a vengeance after I learned more about the history of N.W.A. From there, I started looking for artists I’d previously known only by name or hadn’t really listened to much at all.

One of them was Nas. The song that really got me into his music was “Street Dreams,” which ended up becoming not only one of my favorite Nas tracks but also one of my all-time favorite hip-hop songs.

After discovering “Street Dreams,” I started exploring his discography much more, and I came across other tracks that I also ended up really liking, such as “If I Ruled the World (Imagine That),” as well as several songs from his early albums.

“Hate Me Now” was another one of those tracks I ended up discovering during that journey. It has a much more intense and epic production than many of Nas’s other songs, which makes it feel quite different even within his own discography.

The song was released in 1999 as part of the album I Am... and features Puff Daddy, now known as Diddy. Personally, it’s another one of those tracks that reminds me of the time when I started discovering many classic hip-hop artists beyond the names I’d started with.

Nas ended up being one of the artists who helped me the most in continuing to explore ’90s rap. It all started with Street Dreams, and from there, I kept discovering songs that made me increasingly interested in his music and in that entire era of the genre.
