Not the best start so far of 2026 as I'm down around 0.7 units after the cup matches and the first league match yesterday. I'm looking forward to do better today and tomorrow with 7 matches left this weekend. 3 interesting matches today...
Zulte-Waregem vs Genk
Zulte-Waregem started the seson with high efficiency but this turned around, and they haven't managed to win a match in their last 10 games. It hasn't always been bad and luck hasn't been on their side but overall it just was not good enough. They miss some players due to injuries and the Afrika Cup. They are now in 12th place with equal points to La Louviere and the fear to drop into the playdowns might put some pressure on them. Genk this season clealy is a team with quality but their major flaw in that their midfield defense was too weak cost them many points as they are the 2nd worse defensive team. Despite this, they are still only 2 points away from a playoff 1 spot and it's hard not to see them reach there by the end of the regular season. They have a new coach who had time to change some tactics and I can see them more focused on keeping the opponent from scoring a goal which also might come at the cost of them creating chances. So I see a match where Genk tries to keep control and cautiously goes forward without too much risk which eventually should create some scoring opportunities. I took 0.16 units on
Genk -0.5 @ 2.117 along with 0.08 units on
Zulte-Waregem Team Total Under 1 @ 2.060. Depending on how the match looks in-game, I might increase my stakes on Genk a bit.
Westerlo vs Cercle Brugge
Westerlo is a team who lost some quality mainly with Rommens leaving as they got in a bad streak when he was injured before this season, and Yow is also gone. They had a period where they underperformed based on the xg and more recently this turned completely around where they overperformed a bit in this regard at onlu 0.9-0.81-0.64xg created in their last 3 matches while they gave 1.92-1.14-3.14 away in those games. With Rommens out this won't help them. Cercle Brugge is a team who underperformed based on their quality this season but they kept their coach on board and in their last matches started to get some results with a win against OHL and a draw again Union. They are currently in 2nd last place with 6 points behind on a safe spot and I don't see it as unthinkable for them to get in a good streak. I did take a cautious 0.24 unit bet on
Cercle Brugge +0.25 @ 1.904 in this match. I also would not be surprised to see an open entertaining match at some points with multiple goals coming in bunches, but the Over 3 line kind of is set to that while there always is a chance that it's way more boring than expected. So I'm keeping the option for an over bet with me and I'll see how it evolves in-game.
Union vs Kv Mechelen
Union has been an absolute force at home when it comes down to their results against tha (high) asian handicaps going 8W-1L so far. Even though results have been good, the matches themselves haven't always been that convincing which makes it hard for me to take them on heavy handicaps. This mid week they again qualified for the cup away against Dender but they were highly efficient again. Mechelen currently is in 5th spot but they have been there many times before that it looked like they might make it in playoff 1 but they always just fell short. I also think that right now this is the most likely scenario. At the same time they do manage to put up the occasional good performance. So from a 'winner' point of view, Union is my choice but I want to either see some confirmation first, or for Mechelen to score first. Mechelen does tend to crawl back when in the lead which could create a situation where Union at least creates a bunch of corners and possibly makes a comeback. For now,
