Detox wild tea, either soothing or refreshing, you choose...

Spring has started, with plenty of amazing plants sprouting with vigor that are very beneficial to our health, and one of them is cleavers!

Cleavers, also known as Galium aparine, has numerous health benefits, particularly for supporting lymphatic health and aiding in detoxification. It is believed to support lymphatic health by promoting drainage and circulation, possess diuretic properties aiding in toxin elimination and fluid balance, and may also soothe skin conditions such as rashes and eczema when applied topically.

For the next three weeks, I will be using cleavers in my drink as an addition to my spring wellness routine, especially after periods of indulgence and low physical activity during winter. This comes in handy as it is growing everywhere out there.

Its flavor is slightly grassy or herbal, with a hint of bitterness. When used in teas or infused drinks, cleavers' taste can be subtle and earthy, sometimes reminiscent of green tea but milder with a hint of refreshing cucumber.

I normally steep it in hot water as tea or soak it in cold water overnight as a refreshing drink for the next day. Or simply steep it in hot water with lemon and honey as a soothing tea, ideal for these cold and rainy days!

I used angelica archangelicastem as a straw; it imparts an extra aroma and flavor.

I added some crushed angelica leaves and true wild primrose (Primula vulgaris) as they were available, further enhancing the nutritional profile and taste of my drink. Additionally, these additions offer additional health benefits: angelica is believed to provide several potential health benefits, including digestive support, respiratory health promotion, anti-inflammatory properties, and antioxidant activity, as well as supporting menstrual health. Meanwhile, primrose may help promote relaxation and alleviate stress.

A little warning to those taking diuretics: cleavers will potentially increase urine production even more and could lead to electrolyte imbalances. With constant urination, your body will excrete toxins but will also be losing more electrolytes so make sure that you include lots of good water, potassium, magnesium, salt-rich food in your diet while taking this drink to counteract any potential imbalances.

Have a lovely day, everyone.
