My Accidental Rooster Collection

This painting of a rooster belonged to my dad... his favorite, actually. It’s a watercolor by Noel Rosalez from 1982. I was only six when it was made, the same year the first silver Libertad coins were issued, a series I’ve grown very fond of.

You might recognize it from my blog, where I featured it once. And no, the painting isn’t lopsided… that’s just my photography skills at work, lol.

You might also recognize

this rooster
👇. I featured it on my blog several years ago. It was the first rooster piece I ever ordered from Amazon. I bought it because it was my dad’s favorite, and I didn’t have many things in my home that reminded me of him. That was about seven years ago.

Since then, I’ve received a few roosters from my sorority sisters. This one 👇 was a gift from one of them after her trip to Asia. Roosters are everywhere there she said... on décor, fabrics, and souvenirs—because they’re seen as symbols of luck and protection. She picked it out because she knew how much my dad’s favorite rooster painting meant to me. It’s been with me for about five years now.

This rooster 👇 came from Okinawa, Japan. A sorority sister gave it to me while her husband was stationed there on a military contract. She knew I’d appreciate anything rooster‑related because of my dad. The colors and style are different from the ones I have, but that’s what makes it special. It’s one of those pieces that always reminds me of the people who think of me when they travel.

And yes, I even have a rooster baseball cap. It was one of those random finds, so of course I had to keep it. I don’t wear it often, but it always earns a comment when I do.

Now, this rooster 👇 is H U G E! It’s easily the biggest one in my whole collection. The size alone makes it hard to ignore, even from across the room. It’s not delicate or subtle... it’s bold and loud, just like a giant rooster should be. Every time I look at it, I still laugh at how massive it is!

So that’s the story behind my rooster collection. Each one came into my life for a different reason, and each one carries its own memory.

One is from my Dad, two I bought, three are from friends, and one in particular just makes me laugh. I never planned to collect roosters, but somehow they’ve become a little thread running through my life.

Thanks for sticking with me through this whole journey.
