When the drought arrives, the colors fade, the sap dies in the trees, the leaves fall silent, and suddenly everything is transformed into forms revealed by a few lights and betrayed by a few shadows...

Cuando la sequía llega; lo hace con fuerza inusitada, como queriendo vengarse por tantos meses de lluvias las cuales pintaron todo con verdes... Cuando la sequía llega; los colores se diluyen, la savia muere en los tayos, las hojas se convierten en silencio, y de un momento a otro todo se transforma en formas develadas por algunas luces, y delatadas por algunas sombras...

And yes, when the drought arrives, it begins to happen on the edges of the dirt roads, those small, dead miracles that only I know how to observe... They are there, where there is almost nothing; they appear like tiny echoes of a greenness that left days ago. Leaving behind their small heels, so that they may translate into forms, which only those who sicken them with memory, like me, find on the edges revealed by morning light and some dust raised by the trade winds...

Y sí, cuando la sequía llega; comienza a ocurrir en las orillas de los caminos de tierra, esos pequeños milagros muertos los cuales solo yo sé observar... Están allí, en donde casi no hay nada; aparecen como ecos diminutos de un verdor que se fue hace días. Dejando atrás sus calcañales pequeñitos, para que se traduzcan en formas, las cuales solo los enfermemos de memoria, como yo, encuentran en las orillas revelados por luces matutinas y alguna polvareda levantada por el viento alisio...

I give names to these little visions, which I capture with my camera and bring home. It's easy for me to name them, and even give them a surname or two sometimes. After all, I'm a soul brimming with half-read books, unfinished inventions, casual observations, and hundreds of other things hanging in my thoughts like broken paintings on a white wall... And I don't mind staying there, looking at these miniatures, even talking to them a little while someone passes by, staring without blinking... In a way, I too am as ephemeral as everything there. And maybe I'll get to look at the rain again, or maybe not...

Yo les doy nombres a estas pequeñas visiones, las cuales robo con mi cámara y traigo a casa. Para mi es algo fácil darles nombres, e incluso uno que otro apellido, algunas veces. Total, soy un alma repleta de libros leídos a medias, de invenciones inconclusas, de observancias tomadas a la ligera y de otras cientos de cosas colgando entres mis pensamientos como pinturas rotas en una pared blanca... Y no me importa quedarme allí, mirando estas miniaturas, incluso hablando un poco con ellas mientras por el camino pasa alguien que mira sin pestañar... De alguna manera, yo también soy tan efímero como todo allí. Y puede que me toque mirar de nuevo la lluvia, o puede que simplemente, no...
