Saving Money - A Habit I Formed Through Discipline.

Saving money has never been an easy task to do, especially if you were not taught from a tender age. It becomes a very hard nut to crack. When I was younger, whenever I received a cash gift from someone I'd hand it over to my mother. She'd refuse and asked me to save it myself.
I'd keep it in my box, where I don't usually go. I only inform her about the gift and then save it myself. At the end of the year she'd ask me to bring it out for checking. That was how I learned how to save money. I continued in that manner until I finished secondary school, then I opened a personal bank account.

Then, spending money saved in the bank was not that easy because you'll have to first go to the bank and make a withdrawal which is usually stressful. Now things have changed, you can sit at the comfort of your home at any time or day, shop online and make payments through transfers. If you're not disciplined enough you'll spend without caution, even from your savings.
Now, how do I save my money?
To curtail too much expenses which in most cases hinder me from saving, I make sure I eat homemade foods. I don't eat out. I prepare both breakfast and lunch in the morning before leaving the house so that every member of the family leaves with theirs. It's more economical and saves me unnecessary spending.
Last year I usually took my clothes to laundry services, towards the end of the year I did a random check on how much I spent on laundry. It was way too high, even beyond my expectations. Sometimes we trivialize little daily spendings, but if we take time to go into details we'd be amazed at how much money we've spent.
How I plan To Achieve It.

So this year, to increase my savings I resolved to do my laundry myself, since I have a washing machine, to save cost.
One of the Fintech banks I operate has a “Spend and save” program. I'll activate it. Whenever I make any transfer, a percentage of it will go to savings, at the end of the month I'll withdraw it and save in my piggy bank. I'll activate automatic daily savings in the same piggy bank, set the duration for the period of 12 months. At the end of the year I'll know how much I've saved and use it for a tangible thing.
To improve my savings this year, I have to be more disciplined, intentional and pay attention to details, disregarding any form of impulse spending.
