No es la primera vez que titulo una publicación de aniversario en #Hive, con la famosa frase pensada por el poeta español Antonio Machado, dada la increíble sabiduría que encierra. Solo hay que hacer un breve recorrido por nuestra historia particular dentro de nuestra comunidad propietaria global, para comprender la enseñanza sobre la cual hemos logrado hitos acá. Y es que el 18 de enero de 2018, nuestro hijo @stow01 nos guió para preparar nuestra primera publicación, junto a un par de amigos @themonkeyzuelans, quienes atentos a lo que tipeaba en la laptop, nos animaban a seguir el camino de blockchain. Siempre me preguntaré lo que habría sido de mi vida, si este camino no fuera el que nos tocó transitar. Y lo decimos porque aquella época se presentaba como un futuro algo oscuro para éste servidor. Muy lejos estaba de comprender que la depresión se había hecho dueña de nuestros días. Pero HIVE operó un cambio de ánimo inexplicable.

It’s not the first time I’ve headlined an anniversary post on #Hive with that iconic phrase coined by Spanish poet Antonio Machado, because the wisdom packed in there is just timeless. All it takes is a quick rewind through our own journey inside this global, community-owned space to grasp the lesson behind the milestones we’ve hit here. Back on January 18, 2018, our son @stow01 walked us through the process of crafting our very first post, side by side with a couple of friends @themonkeyzuelans, who were watching every keystroke on the laptop and hyping us up to keep rolling down the blockchain path. I’ll always wonder what my life would’ve looked like if this hadn’t been the road we were meant to take. And I say that because at that time the horizon felt pretty dark for this writer. I was far from realizing that depression had taken over my days. But HIVE flipped the script and sparked a mood shift I still can’t explain.

HIVE llegó a mi vida sin mucha expectativa. Había leído demasiado sobre "lugares en internet para hacer dinero" y, aunque jamás intenté en alguno de ellos, fue la insistencia de los chicos la que finalmente nos convenció de probar. Y como en el poema de Machado, de pronto nos conseguimos con un mundo fascinante, más lleno de dudas que de certezas. Porque eso es lo que siente un "newbie" en #Hive cuando comienza su andadura. En aquella época, las ayudas visuales o los tutoriales en español escaseaban, porque en pleno mercado alcista, nadie se preocupó por los nuevos. Así que cada Hiver contemporáneo, tuvo que sudar la gota gruesa para aprender prácticamente sólo. En nuestro caso, nos dispusimos a revisar la etiqueta #spanish para resolver las dudas que nos asaltaban. Fue al sexto día checando el feed que dimos con nuestra primera búsqueda útil: una publicación que hablaba sobre la App Discord, usada hasta la saciedad por aquella época fuera de la comunidad para establecer contactos.

HIVE came into my life with zero expectations. I’d read plenty about “places online to make money” and, even though I never tried any of them, it was the persistence of the crew that finally convinced us to give it a shot. And just like in Machado’s poem, we suddenly stumbled into a fascinating world—more questions than answers, more doubts than certainties. That’s exactly what a “newbie” on #Hive feels when starting out. Back then, visual guides or Spanish tutorials were scarce, because in the middle of the bull run nobody cared about onboarding. So every Hiver of that era had to grind hard and learn pretty much solo. In our case, we dove into the #spanish tag to tackle the doubts hitting us. On the sixth day scrolling the feed, we landed our first useful find: a post explaining the Discord App, which at that time was being used nonstop outside the community to connect with people.

Fue entonces, cuando todo escaló hacia una dimensión nueva y logramos mediante preguntas directas en comunidades establecidas, salir de la mayor cantidad de dudas posible. @engranaje fue la comunidad donde más nos sentimos a gusto y a partir de allí, comenzamos el ascenso dentro de la vieja cadena, desde la cual HIVE se bifurcó. Miedos y satisfacciones han permeado nuestro camino acá. Nos vimos envueltos en varias diatribas con diferentes usuarios, ora porque nos sentíamos dueños de la verdad (errando a veces) ó porque nos asistía la razón, nunca le dimos la espalda a la controversia. Fue así como, poco a poco, nos fuimos ganando el respeto de la comunidad. Hemos hecho prácticamente de todo en HIVE: poemas, ensayos, crónicas, vídeos, tutoriales, entrevistas, eventos y hasta arte. Nada de ello habría ocurrido si le hacíamos caso omiso a la recomendación de aquellos jóvenes, quienes nos insistían que esto era el futuro. Entonces, apareció en el camino aquel momento donde lo económico dejó de importar y es allí cuando la verdadera esencia de #Hive comenzó a manifestarse.

That’s when everything leveled up into a whole new dimension, and by dropping direct questions in established communities we managed to clear out most of our doubts. @engranaje was the space where we felt most at home, and from there we started climbing inside the old chain—the one from which HIVE eventually forked. Fears and wins have marked our path here. We got tangled in plenty of debates with different users, sometimes because we thought we owned the truth, other times because reason was on our side, but we never backed away from controversy. That’s how, little by little, we earned the respect of the community. We’ve done pretty much everything on HIVE: poems, essays, chronicles, videos, tutorials, interviews, events, even art. None of that would’ve happened if we had ignored the advice of those young folks who kept insisting this was the future. There came a point when the money stopped being the focus, and that’s exactly when the true essence of #Hive started to show itself.

De allí la suprema importancia que tiene el abrogar el papel de creador de contenido auténtico y no de sumador de SPAM para nuestra cadena. Ocho años acá nos han entregado una dimensión completa de lo que puedes lograr aquí con esfuerzo. Pero no aquel esfuerzo que conlleve algo redituable. Se entrega sin esperar nada a cambio. Esa es la esencia del cooperativismo de nuestra comunidad global. Puede que muchos aún no lo entiendan, pero dar sin esperar, es el secreto del éxito acá y en todas partes. Y parafraseando el poema de Antonio: "Hiver no hay camino", significando que solo existe una ecuación para vuestra satisfacción plena en #Hive: Tiempo, calidad y consistencia. Los únicos ingredientes necesarios para "hacer camino al andar" ¡Salud y por otros ocho años!

That’s why it’s crucial to embrace the role of authentic content creator instead of just stacking SPAM on the chain. Eight years here have given us a full picture of what you can achieve with effort—but not the kind of effort chasing payouts. It’s about giving without expecting anything back. That’s the essence of the cooperative spirit in our global community. Some may still not get it, but giving without expecting is the real hack for success here and everywhere. To paraphrase Antonio’s poem: “Hiver, there is no path,” meaning there’s only one formula for true satisfaction on #Hive—time, quality, and consistency. The only ingredients you need to “make the road by walking" Cheers, and here’s to another eight years!
