Hello everyone and welcome to Warhammer 40k and here I review another Detachment Review for the Space Marines Army, this time: the Blade of Ultramar.

As explained in the post

we are now going to be doing reviews based on the new Faction Packs.

This post is based on Faction Pack Space Marines that have more Detachments than Codex Space Marines and it replaces everything that happened prior. There are small changes and these changes are based on what can be found online at www.warhammer-community.com.

Since I started, the Space Marines have received even MORE Detachments, putting me back from getting to any other factions. So I need to get my ass in gear and get more of these done at a faster pace.

Because this Detachment is based on the Imperial Fists one would think that this Detachment was based on the Anvil Seige Force... but while this Detachment revolves arounf Darnath Lysander, 1st Captain of the Imperial Fists, it is more a 1st Company Task Force based around Veteran units of the 1st Company.

Note that this Detachment makes use of the Space Marine Army Rule,

Emperor's Shield

Detachment Rule - Wrath of Dorn

Units in this army that target the Oath of Moment target can re-roll 1's to Wound.

Lysander's unit can re-roll to Wound rolls against this target instead.

Review This means that they get Re-roll to Hit, +1 to Wound and re-roll 1's to wound (Full rerolls for Lysander)

Enhancements

Most Detachments have 4 Enhancements. These can only be given to Characters that qualify and never to Epic Heroes. You may only select up to three Enhancements to field at the same time. The Points indicated nect to these Enhancements are stated as they are at the time of writing this article. They may change in the latest Minutorum Field Manual.

Champion of the Feast - 25pts

Adeptus Astartes model only. Add 1 to the model's melee weapons. Once per game for a phase, add 1 to the attacks of all the melee weapons in the model's unit.

** This was The Imperium's Sword in the Anvil Siege Detachment. But the other three Enchancements are unique!

Malodraxian Standard - 20pts

Adeptus Astarted Ancient model only. Each time an attack targets this unit, if the Strength of the attack is greater than this unit's Toughness, then -1 to Wound rolls.

Disciple of Rhetoricus - 10pts

Adeptus Astartes Terminator model only. +1 OC for the bearer. Once per battle in any phase +1 OC to all models in the bearer's unit until the end of the phase.

Indomitable Champion - 20pts

Adeptus Astartes Terminator model only. The first time the bearer is killed roll a 2+ and set the bearer back on the battlefield as close as possible to where he died but not in Engagement Range of an enemy. With 3 wounds remaining.

Stratagems

Fury of the First - 1 CP

When: Your Shoot or Fight phase.
Target: One Adeptus Astartes Terminator, Bladeguard, Sternguard or Vanguard squad unit that has not yet shot or fought.
Effect: That unit adds 1 to the Hit roll and if the unit is Below Starting strength, they add 1 to the Wound roll as well.

Review This was Heroes of the Chapter in 1st Company. But this one is better, gaining the +1 to Wound rolls a lot earlier.

Armor of Contempt - 1 CP

When: Your opponent's Shoot or Fight phase, after an enemy has selected its targets.
Target: One Adeptus Astartes unit from your army that was selected by one or more of those attacks.
Effect: Until the attacking unit has finished making its attacks, each attack they make is at -1 Armour Penetration Characteristic.

Review Note that most Space Marine Detachments have this Stratagem as one of their 6 Stratagems, it is not an error that they and the Gladius have Armour of Contempt.

Obdurate Vengeance - 1CP

When: Your Fight Phase. Just after the enemy has selected targets/
Target: One Adeptus Astartes Terminator, Bladeguard, Sternguard or Vanguard squad unit that was selected as the target of theose attacks.
Effect: 3+ Fights on Death. (Units are not removed from play when they die before hitting back!)

Review The 1st Company did not have a Strat like this. Instead they had a Strat to make units take Battle Shock at -1 when they kill something within 6"

Dropship Extraction - 1CP

When: End of your opponent's Fight phase.
Target: One Adeptus Astartes Terminator unit.
Effect: Remove your unit from the battlefield and place them into Strategic Reserves. It will be set up back on to the board in the next Reinforcements step and Deep Strike
Restrictions: You cannot be selected if they are in combat.

Review This was Orbital Teleportarium in the 1st Company Vets.

Wrathful Conquerors - 1CP

When: Your Movement phase
Target: One Adeptus Astartes Terminator, Bladeguard, Sternguard or Vanguard squad unit that is within range of an objective marker you control.
Effect: That Objective marker remains yours until the enemy comes to take it away.

Review In other words Sticky Objectives. This was Duty and Honour in 1st Company.

Disciplined Extermination - 1 CP

When: Your Shooting Phase.
Target: One Adeptus Astartes Terminator, Bladeguard, Sternguard or Vanguard squad that has not yet shot.
Effect: Until the end of the phase the unit's Ranged Weapons gain Ignores Cover and improve AP by 1.

Review In its place the 1st Company had a strat to take -1 Damage from attacks.
Review The only squads that will use this strat are Terminators and Sterguard!
