Synopsis

This story focuses on two main characters, Chioma, a young, independent, working class woman facing some challenges in her relationship, and Obiora, an affluent and resilient Igbo man who carries his roots with pride. They meet in a rather humorous way, and that encounter sets the tone for what the future holds for them, despite their individual preferences and circumstances.

The movie examines the depth of love and romance, exploring how emotions are expressed in both subtle and grand ways. It also captures the romantic desires of men and women, revealing how they pursue their interests in modern society. Love in Every Word carries the audience through the blossoming relationship between Chioma and Obiora, highlighting the societal expectations often placed on both genders.

My Verdict

Love in Every Word is a beautiful and emotionally grounded movie that appeals to the audience it was clearly made for. I loved the core message Omoni Oboli aimed to convey with this story: of love that is firm, intentional, and deeply rooted in curiosity and emotional certainty.

However, the movie fell short in some areas. One of the issues I had early on was the pacing. The story moved too fast, especially from the point where Chioma and Obiora met to when they ended up sharing a hotel room. It felt rushed, almost like the writer got lost with the plot mid way.

Another flaw can be seen in the way workplace etiquette was portrayed in this movie. Certain scenes showed employee behavior that felt unrealistic in a Nigerian corporate setting, such as entertaining loud visitors in the office and acting unprofessional over gifts sent to the workplace in the presence of a boss.

That said, the movie ended in a nice way. Although, the sudden introduction of Chioma’s father as a reason for her fear of love felt forced. I dare say it was added just to complete the story. Also, for a movie with such a passionate title, the love shared, especially from Chioma’s side, lacked depth.

The performances, however, deserve lots of accolades. Chioma’s mother and her friend Ify delivered their roles excellently. Obiora’s acting was a delight. He was his authentic self, while Bam Bam played her soft-spoken character with consistency, even though her delivery felt slightly slow at different points.

Overall, I would rate Love in Every Word a 6 out of 10. The production leaned heavily on exaggeration, but it remains a decent watch for anyone who's a fan of romantic dramas, looking for a simple, funny movie to unwind with after a long day.
