These golden, crispy samosas bring a Mexican twist to the classic Indian snack. Filled with savory ground beef, spices, fresh jalapeños, and a touch of cilantro, each bite is bursting with flavor. Served with a vibrant jalapeño-cilantro chutney, they’re perfect for a spicy, satisfying appetizer or snack.

Ingredients:

For the Filling

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp chili powder

  • 1/4 tsp cumin

  • 1/2 tsp Mexican oregano

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1/4 cup onion, chopped

  • 2 jalapeños, chopped

  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced

  • 1 Roma tomato, diced

  • 3 tbsp chopped cilantro

For the Dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1/3 cup shortening

  • 1 cup warm water

For the Chutney

  • 2 jalapeños

  • 1 green onion

  • 1/2 cup cilantro

  • 1 lime, juiced

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/2 cup olive oil

For the Egg Wash

  • 1 egg + 1 tbsp water

Preparation:

  1. Make the Filling:
Heat a pan with a little oil and add the ground beef. Stir in the salt, chili powder, cumin, and Mexican oregano, cooking for 2 minutes. Add the garlic, onion, jalapeños, green onions, tomato, and cilantro. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes, then uncover and cook until the liquid evaporates. Set aside to cool.

  2. Make the Dough:
In a bowl, mix the flour, salt, and baking powder. Add the shortening, cutting it into the flour until fully incorporated. Gradually add the warm water, mixing until you have a smooth, slightly sticky dough. Let it rest for 20-30 minutes, then divide it into balls. Roll each ball with flour into a flat circle, then cut in half. Brush the edges with egg wash, add about 2 tbsp of filling, and fold into a triangle, pressing the edges to seal well. Let the samosas air-dry for 10 minutes.

  3. Fry the Samosas:
Heat oil over medium heat and fry the samosas until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.

  4. Make the Chutney:
In a blender, combine all chutney ingredients and blend until smooth.

Enjoy these Mexican-style Samosas with your fresh chutney!
