The Heat

The heat. The air always feels heavy, on these hot days. At least it is still a little cool when I get up in the mornings. This morning I even had a light hoodie on, come midday I was wishing I hadn't brought it. It's just another thing to carry around, as I went from one job to the next. As well as some fruit and veg, which I got from the market, just before I started my first job. I didn't bring my trolley with me, as my second job,, required me to walk long an acequia path, which is no place for a trolley. Plus it's quite uphill.

So I found myself with two heavy bags and my bloody hoodie. Just after the market, I went to pick up some books for my girls. So my backpack was full. Midday heat and I find myself lugging around too much, as I make my way to my second Job. I really don't make things easy for myself. But it had to be done. My work went well, I was finished by 2:30,then I had to walk back into town, as I live on the other side of it. When it's hot, the last place I want to be in is a town. All that concrete, makes it a hell of a lot hotter.

But I survived. I'm just in the transition period, acclimatising to the summer heat. So I'm allowed to have a little moan, a rant. Because I know what is coming ad really I need to pace myself. This summer is the busiest, workwise for me. I really try and do my work in the mornings, but I might just have to work a couple of evenings as well.

I'm really grateful for the work, I just want to make sure that I don't overdo it.

But for the first time, since I moved here. Which is just over 10 years now, me and my girls will get a wee break from the heat, as we will be traveling to Ireland for 2 and a half weeks, the end of July, the beginning of August. So that there is a good bit of motivation to get me through, some of the hottest days. For what will probably be the first time ever, I really hope it rains whilst I am there. Not all the time, but most of it. I apologise now to my fellow Irish, but damn I'm really going to be looking forward to some rain.

It was only 34 Degrees Celsius today, (only she says) it gets above 40 here in the peak of summer, so I got to just surrender to it really, all the while knowing that the gift of Irish rain, awaits me. Honestly, I often dream of a rainy Day in Ireland, on the hottest nights and now finally me and my girls will get to enjoy, just that.

(The photos I used, are from my walk to work. You can see the river is starting to dry up, in the last photo.)
