We had a great Christmas in Edinburgh with the family. Conveniently it coincided with a Doctor Who exhibition at the

. We have been to the museum several times and it is a great place. We walked there on Boxing Day and it actually snowed quite a lot on the way. We were a little cold and damp by the time we got there.

One of the first items you see is a replica of the Tardis console from the earliest episodes. This was used for a TV drama about how they made the show. There were lots of screens showing interviews with fans and those involved in the production. Several had Mark Gatis telling us various things. He has been in the show.

You had to pay to go into the exhibition whilst it is free to go around the rest of the museum. We thought it was good value. They covered the whole history of the show and I remember this robot from the 1970s era of Tom Baker.

This was a robot explorer for the more recent Waters of Mars episode. I liked that it came from Bowie Base One.

The special effects have improved since the early days. These are all from the modern era stories. Fans will recognise some of these faces. There was also quite a lot of science content relating the show to real things in astronomy, physics and biology. There were some interactive screens to explore that.

One room had lots of monsters with a sign saying there was no sofa to hide behind. You have to feel for people who have to wear these for any time as they must be uncomfortable.

These replicas of Matt Lucas and Greg Davies were used on a robot.

Of course there was a gift shop and we may have purchased a couple of items.

We have been to a couple of similar exhibitions, but this one had a lot to offer. It was good to see more of the old props and costumes from my childhood. My kids have grown up with the modern shows from Christopher Eccleston onwards. There will be a 60th anniversary espiode next year, so the show is older than me (just).

The exhibition runs until May, so check it out if you can.
