Annuals garden update May 2025

We are finished planting seeds now, and waiting for everything to wake up and get adjusted to their new homes. The garlic started late last year is waking up as well and one started to produce scapes, I cut them off and watching the others to see if they produce them as well. The shallots started bolting so we cut those as well. Looking forward to getting to try these soon.
Not sure if I should remove the hay around them or not. Figured it helps to lock in moisture. I did notice a black color forming around the base where they meet the soil. So I may need to remove it, as I am afraid of rot becoming a problem.
The first two plants to go in the ground were spinach and brussel sprouts. These are doing great and seem well adjusted already. They are enjoying the cool weather right now.
Not sure if they will produce fruit the first year, may be something I see next year.
The red and white chard is doing pretty well too. Just planted a few days ago I think its adjusting.
The arugula lettuce is starting to grow, and I think we can harvest greens from them eventually.
Broccoli is also growing well.
The tomato plants are small right now, but eventually I will cage them for better support of their fruits.
We started much less of them this year, last year we had almost 10 plants and way too many tomatoes.. lol
We also started some butter crunch lettuce, its doing okay. Growing more slowly than the arugula.
The outdoor cannabis area has been prepped. I cut back the grass around and laid three buckets of mulch and spread it all around. Waiting for four seeds to germinate and then will be planting them.
Looking forward to growing some autos outside this year, hoping I can get two harvests in one year.
All the garlic is doing well I think, its hard to say as this is my first time growing it.
Been watching them for any issues but all is well.
I think harvest time is July so just a few more months.
All of the labels have faded, so now I need to look back at my early Hive posts on these to figure out what I wrote.. lol
Getting that garlic started kit was a good idea, with so many kinds I am excited to try them all.
Its hard to see but I put some peppers in that bed along with celery.
Another thing hard to see is the aspragus. Its coming up now.
These wispy plants will grow a few feet tall eventually.
Got myself three rows of them each row around 15 feet long.
Some cauliflower was started in the raised beds as well. Its still recovering.
The melon and cantaloupes are coming up as well. Small right now but soon they will sprawl out and form fruits.
The sage is growing, slowly but surely.
Looks like one of the direct sow seeds is coming up. It is either onion, raddish or carrot. Hah a spider is hanging out on it.
Hopefully the chard starts growing more soon, looking forward to many salads.
So thankful to have this water tank. Using a car battery and water transfer pump we have everything we need to water when the rains are not reliable enough.
Right outside the enclosure, there is wild asparagus growing.. Just as hard to see as mine, this one is flowering now. But maybe next year I can harvest some when I catch it at the right stage.. It is surely old enough to eat.
