Sublime Sunday and An Overnight in SF

My friends picked me up at home at 4:30 pm, just early enough that there was still a little light left in the sky. It didn’t last long though.

By the time we got to Vacaville, the day was already slipping into darkness, the kind that arrives early this time of year.

From my home to San Francisco took two hours.

Traffic was slow, but steady; just the usual rhythm of cars inching their way toward the city. We were going to attend a party and stay overnight, so there wasn’t any pressure... just the long stretch of freeway.

The Bay Bridge always looks pretty at night. This time was no different.
The tunnel, with its blue lights, is like a small moment of ceremony.

And then, as always, you come out of the tunnel, and there it is: the skyline of San Francisco!

From the bridge, you can see so much of the Embarcadero and the Financial District. It’s a view that never gets old.

I don’t miss working in the city. I don’t miss the constant rush. But I do miss my home district. Driving in always brings back memories. This is where I finished elementary school, and where I went to middle school, and high school. These are the streets I grew up on. And UCSF is where I completed both my college and graduate courses. It is forever in my memory!

Passing through the city stirs up all of that at once: the years of studying, the routines, the feeling of being young and focused and surrounded by possibility.
