Medal of Honor: Warfighter, a soundtrack review

Bottom Line Up Front: A great album to drown out the background noise.
Rating: Thumbs Up, it’s in the mx.

Directions: Listen from start to finish, realize it’s no longer playing, and repeat. That was how I ended up listening to Ramin Djawadi’s soundtrack to EA’s 2012

. As one who doesn’t really have time to play video games anymore (we’re talking the original Golden Eye being the last time I did so) I only recently found this album while looking among other Djawadi soundtracks.

My immediate thoughts are simple, the overall tone isn’t too hard and actually makes for a great album to drown out the noise of a busy household while working from home during the coronavirus ordeal. There is definitely an overall theme to the music; slight undertones of meaningful, if not depressed, Spanish guitar throughout the entirety (less a song or two) and an unstated level of the seriousness of the mission(s) (i.e., I’m probably not coming home from this one).

A song that caught my attention a few times while listening was “Bridge the Gap.” The opening of the song has a LOST (as in the TV show) vibe/feel too it but quickly turns to a very serious piece giving one the imagination of a fighting team making their way through a narrow yet hostel land mass. Again, I haven’t played the game, but it’s easy to imagine.

I also enjoyed listening “H.A.H.O.” on repeat; it has a few of the sounds you’ll find in Djawadi’s soundtrack to EA’s 2010

. I’ve read that some people were disappointed in the merging of sounds (it was some years ago, I think on a LAST FM (?) board), however, I rather enjoy the familiarity- I’ll even go so far as to call it continuity- of the sounds.

Though this wouldn’t really be a go-to for a workout-routine album, it’s not too bad for just drowning out the noise.

And as a bonus, below is Linkin Park's “Castle of Glass” video as it was used for Warfighter’s promotional trailer.

The songs:

  • For Rabbit
  • Deploy
  • NOC Out
  • Lean’s Theme
  • Kit Up
  • Restless Natives
  • Blackbird on a Wire
  • Bridge the Gap
  • Saa’iq
  • The Raid
  • Force Multiplier
  • Old Friend, New Foe
  • Victory at Sea
  • Resolve
  • Green Light
  • H.A.H.O.
  • Medal Run
  • For Mother
  • Buzz in the Air
  • Lean’s Dream
  • With Honors
  • Other: Castle of Glass (Linkin Park)
