EARTH'S DAY

I've been trying for more than 2 weeks to make this post, but all my efforts proved abortive (reasons still unknown to me ) I had no other alternative than to start afresh (although I've been assured the problem will be rectified , but I can't keep out of hive for Soo long )
So HELLO HIVE Here's my new post on Earth day

I never knew there's was an event like Earth's day until this day. I came across it while strolling through my phone today, and so after making some researches about it ...I decided to make a post coupled with some pictures(though it's past)

#ORIGIN
I discovered that this event has been celebrated every 22nd of April since 1970 It has been mapped out as a day where we express gratitude to Mother earth
for her kindness and care for our planet and it's inhabitants and also a day that serves as a reminder to protect our environment , restore damaged ecosystems and also to live a sustainable life

#WHAT-BROUGHT -ABOUT-EARTHDAY
History has it that the Earth's day came about as a result of the santa Barbara oil spill which occurred in January and February 1969 in Santa Barbara channel near the city of Santa Barbara in southern California.
 caused as a result of a blow out which occurred on January 28 1969 6 miles (10km) from the coast on Union Oil platform this oil spill ( which remains the highest to have happened in the waters of California) claimed the lives of many marine animals killing an estimated number of 3500 sea birds and other marine animals such as dolphins, elephant seals and sea lions .. this turn of events angered the people who took to the streets to protest and such an action by the public caught the attention and concern of the government which resulted in the legislation that brought about EARTH'S DAY

#IMPORTANCE
The Earth's day celebration has played a very important role creating awareness about environmental issues since then,
According to earthday.org the Earth day mission is to diversify , educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide
note: the landmark Paris agreement was signed on Earth day in 2016

This year's theme for earth day was ‘ Invest In Our Planet ’..
‘This is the time to change it all ... the business climate , the political climate and how we take action on climate. now is the time for an unstoppable courage to preserve and protect our health , our families, our livelihood.... together we must invest in our planet ’ it said
