Trouble in the sun!

Here was the judge, an African Darter getting onto his seat in the dam.
The opponents, all juvenile Red-knobbed coots (Fulica cestrata) gathered to take up their positions.
Right the fight was on and there was a lot of splashing and intimidation taking place.
Slowly the fight started to calm down and you can see how many were backing their leader against the challenger.
Then it was time for the challenger to get out of there.
Ho hum, just another day at the office, as the judge saw that nobody was hurt and he then decided to leave.
Reminds one about the politicians doesn't it. All show and threats and the majority always wins. But of course there are also rare times when a surprise challenger wins and takes over the reign.
Coots are very jealous birds and they will protect their territories against any challengers, but they are also wise enough to allow their babies to swim around between the Egyptian geese and even the darters, as they know that the babies will be protected.
And That's All Friends!
