Is it comfortable enough? Does it express my personality?

One of my friends has formed the habit of calling my attention each time she is dressing for an occasion. She will dress in different fashion styles, snap them, and send them to my WhatsApp to help her make a choice. She is the pure definition of a dressing dilemma; unfortunately, she is not in hive. This topic is just so perfect for her; she would have explained to us the rate of headaches she goes through each time she is set to dress for an event.

Dressing dilemmas are common for my gender. When it comes to dressing, most ladies find it so difficult to make their choices. Of course we want to stay fashionable; however, it might look weird for you to know that I am not one of those who spends hours making a dress choice. This is because I take my time to select clothes in the market that represent my personality. Yes, I love fashion and I love looking presentable, but my top priority while making a choice of dress is comfort and representing my personality through dressing. I wouldn't want to dress otherwise, not anymore.

Let me tell you a short story...

When I got admitted to the university, I had this particular friend who just wanted me to dress hot like her. From what she told me, her parents only bought revealing dresses for her, tight pants and shorts, and tops that revealed her breasts and showed other contours. She just liked me for a reason I don't know. She went ahead to shop some similar dresses for me, saying that she does not like the way I dress too decently. She added that no man will get attracted to me with the way I dress. Hmm, unconsciously, I believed her and started wearing those clothes. I was stupid enough to wear them in my house when I traveled from school to home. My grandmother, upon seeing my dress, entered the bike and rushed to meet my mom, telling her what I had turned into. With my dress, my grandmother already concluded that I have started following men in school; if not, what could make me dress in a way that my nakedness wasn't covered properly?. Her interpretation of what I have become made me rethink. I never did what she accused me of, but my dress said that to her. "The way you are dressed is the way you will be addressed", This statement is very correct, I must say!

That was the very time I started considering my personality while dressing up. It should just be decent, comfy, bright, and beautiful, and it mustn't be what is in vogue or trending.

It's not hard for me to get dressed. I do not give myself headaches when it comes to dressing because, already, what I have in my wardrobe are dresses that speak to who I am. Keeping it simple and cute while covering my privacy. Most times, I don't even consider matching my dress, and that's why you can see me with a different color handbag or shoes. My friends have already told me to do better. I am a lover of jeans, especially blue jeans. I have different types for different occasions. Once the kind of place I am going is known, I just pick up any jeans with a random top, wear my sneakers, and I am good to go.

I also love jackets, especially when the weather is cold, which isn't something common here in Nigeria. My fashion sense isn't complicated, just something bright enough, but jeans are almost a daily wear for me. Even for shopping, a little outing, or traveling, just a pair of jeans and one random top I see in my wardrobe is fine. Depending on where I am going, I can either wear palms with it or sneakers. I love to be comfy and cute, which is why I always dress up a pair of jeans, and this doesn't take my time in any way to make a choice.

Then, when it comes to going to church or attending traditional marriages and the like, I just pick any of my native clothes with a shoe with 2 to 3 inch heels to make me feel more comfortable. I have never purchased very high heels like most ladies do. I just find it so uncomfortable, and of course I wouldn't want to fall down all in the name of fashion.

In summary,I love to dress modestly. Of course I am a wife and mother, and my offspring are looking up to me. I also know it’s not right to show the whole world certain parts of my body. With this fashion flair of mine, I feel confident as well.

This is my response to the #HiveLearners community contest on the topic dressing dilemma.

Thank you for reading through.
