The Blue Dolphin Sports Bar - Welcome to the Darkside!
This is the name of the establishment in Pattaya where the cars are located. You can look it up on your favorite mobile maps, go see them, have a beer even. On the beautiful Maprachan lake, so called 'darkside' of Pattaya. 'The Darkside' was for a long time exactly that, underdeveloped side of the city, inland when there really was no expat housing, no street lighting, not really any shops etc and the roads were virtually dirt ... it's very different now, very much so. After 15-20 years development it's a new top pick for expats wanting to be a little away from the craziness of 'fun town' (another name for notorious Pattaya!). A good long story for another post coming soon!
Inside, indeed in what amounts to a semi al-fresco open sports bar of some description - sat on display is a fairly interesting looking hot rod. Looks like it's slowly turning into a barn find. Quite dusty, clearly not running and part of the furniture for now ... although being in full view along a main road, one can hardly expect it to vanish easily from sight.
Perhaps awaiting a freshen up. Beefy off-road tires, I wonder if it's also for fun in the mud? There are plenty of off road tracks around here to play ...
For sure it's a little crude, however looks like a lot of fun if it were to be put back on the road
Big block Chevy looks to be all there, just a bit dusty and in need of a freshening up
Around back, seems like the outer skin of the bed and rear arches ('fenders') are not present. Could be deliberate
Hawaii 5-0
Parked up behind the Ford Capri from yesterday, is a great big old American police cruiser. Seems to have had a bit of a shunt, and not made it back on the road. I've got a vague memory of actually seeing this car on the road in Pattaya about 10 years ago, looking much better than now. Could be the same one...
State of Ohio it says ... anyone know anything about police cruisers?
Would certainly make for a very unique classic ride, once refreshed!
Finally, there was another potentially very cool retro Datsun pickup. Again, looking slightly neglected, flat tires, a load of rubbish staked in the bed...I wonder what the story is?
Cars and Bikes
Being in Asia, (Thailand for that matter), motorcycles are obviously very popular. Not just as a means for the masses to obtain highly affordable personal transport. For fun also ... which is where we start with this little classic parked next to it's contemporary very much younger highly evolved brother!
Interesting pairing of the old and new ... a vintage looking little Yamaha scrambler and a modern Yamaha full-size dirt bike
Thanks for reading!
Would you take on any of these as a project? Let me know in the comments!
