This time will be a little different, as I'll be volunteering at the event. It's a little cheaper this way and it should be fun. Also, it's a good way to meet people and see how things work from the other side. Also less drinking and smoking, so better for my health haha. It can't always be Hivefest after all. 😆

Our Trip

Well, it was a little tricky to even book any flights. The airport in Acapulco was partly destroyed in the hurricane in October, and some flights aren't going anymore.
There used to be direct flights from Cancun to Acapulco but they just don't exist anymore.
Not sure if they try to keep the Quintana Roo crowd from going to Acapulco for whatever reason but they sure made it more difficult.

When I first started looking for flights, there weren't any going to Acapulco at all.
Nice one! Then a week or so later, there were flights but with crazy stop-overs of 6 hours or more. Somehow they seem to think it's fair to have us fly to Mexico city first, then Tijuana, and then back to Acapulco... Weird. And there were no alternatives. Really weird.

So I thought the only way to get there would be by flying to Mexico city, and then take a bus or BlaBlaCar to Acapulco. Simple, right? Wrong!
The busses leave from the city center, and so do the cars...
It's hell trying to get to the center.
Not only that, but Mexico city has three different airports, two of which aren't even close to the city.

I was losing hope because I just couldn't see us go through all that trouble, and spend all that money, since it's quite expensive to go this way.
And then, by a miracle, I made a mistake that proved to be a lucky mistake.
Instead of typing 'Cancun' I somehow ended up writing 'Cozumel'.
And there were flights! Still with a stopover of 3 hours in Mexico city but it sure as hell beats going on a bus for 5 hours, plus all the hassle to get to said bus.
Plus, it's actually easier for us to get to Cozumel as it's only a ferry ride away, while getting to Cancun is usually more difficult.

Looking forward to see Old and New Faces

On the list of speakers this year, we have Max Igan and Andrew Kauffman. I met both of them in 2022. This year, Larken Rose will also be present. I'm really looking forward to meet him!
But overall, it's not really about the speakers, but more about the connections with the people who visit. And this year, as a volunteer, I hope to be meeting and connecting with more people than before.
We're leaving the house in a few hours, arriving in Acapulco at 9pm. We'll be coming back home around the 25th or so. Hopefully as easily as we're going.

I'm looking forward to it!

To be continued...
