Happy Earth Day

Today is April 22nd, 2023 and we spent earth day the best way we know how, outside. We didn’t plan a long road trip. We just walked around the woods behind the house and did a little gardening. The neighbors enjoy looking at the spring flowers in front and we enjoy the fruits of the garden in the fall.

On our hike, we visited some of my favorite trees. I like the pine trees in Korea. There are basically two types. One is the sequoia pine that reaches strait for the heavens and the other is Pinus Koraiensis or just the Korean pine. The Korean pine doesn’t shoot up into the sky but branches out sometimes in a twisty curvy fashion.
 

 

 

Enjoy Earth right outside your door

Earth Day is a day to enjoy the earth around you without ruining it. I don’t suggest anyone get in a diesel pick up truck and drive six hours to the nearest national park. Probably it’s best to stay near home and enjoy whatever nature you can find. If there isn’t any nature around then try getting some dirt and planting a seed.
 

Papa Pepper's Peach

One of my favorite videos was the day Papa Pepper got a peach pit as a gift. Most people would just throw out the peach pit, but it was a treasure to him and his homestead. He saw years ahead when the peach would blossom and bear fruit. It was then I caught his vision and loved it.

I would like my children to have vision and instead of looking at the earth and complaining or feeling despair, they could look and give thanks for they are alive today. I want them to take the time to appreciate the diversity and symbiosis of the nature around us.
