Today I want to tell you about something that has had us very worried this week. Our beloved Venus, a fundamental part of our family, got sick and has required urgent veterinary care on more than one occasion.
It all started when we noticed Venus was urinating blood. Alarmed, we decided to take her to the vet immediately. Shortly after, she stopped eating, which increased our concern even more. My daughter, María Daniela, with her great love and responsibility, took her to the emergency room at the Animal Protection Institute, located in Plaza Para Todos. My husband and I couldn't go with them, but we were in constant communication with her.
At the institute, they performed blood tests and an abdominal echocardiogram. The results revealed the presence of intact, echogenic, spherical structures, which produced posterior acoustic shadowing, with an approximate size of 2.6 mm. Additionally, a finding was observed in the urinary bladder, consistent with the presence of a stone. Blood tests showed that Venus had all values below normal, except for her white blood cell count, which was elevated, indicating a possible infection.
Despite this situation, we were allowed to take her home with an IV line to keep her hydrated and continue the prescribed treatment. However, she lost the line yesterday, so today we had to take her back to have it reinserted and to have another check-up, as she has not yet shown clear signs of recovery.
The veterinarians decided to perform a liver profile and a more specific echocardiogram. At this time, we are awaiting the results, anxiously but with great hope.
