Today I want to share with you a trip I recently took, framed by the gray skies of our Cuban winter. I got up early, got things in order at Chocolates Alile, checked the orders, and, with everything on track, decided to go to Guanabacoa. I had scheduled an appointment with a bookkeeper to make sure everything at Alile was running smoothly. But beyond work, this trip was also a reunion with cherished memories and landscapes.

The sky had been overcast for days. Our winter, although brief and mild compared to other places, surprises us with temperatures between 14 and 15 degrees Celsius. For many, this might seem pleasant, but for us, living in the tropics, it feels like it's snowing. The streets look emptier, everything takes on a muted tone… and I confess it's not my favorite time of year: I'm more of a summer person, a sun lover, and a beach person.

Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes un recorrido que hice recientemente, enmarcado por el cielo gris de nuestro invierno cubano. Me levanté temprano, puse en orden los asuntos de Chocolates Alile, revisé los pedidos y, con todo encaminado, decidí ir hasta Guanabacoa. Había coordinado una cita con una tenedora de libros para asegurarme de que todo en Alile estuviera funcionando correctamente. Pero más allá del trabajo, este paseo fue también un reencuentro con memorias y paisajes queridos.

El cielo llevaba días cubierto de nubes. Nuestro invierno, aunque breve y suave comparado con otros lugares, nos sorprende con temperaturas entre 14 y 15 grados centígrados. Para muchos puede parecer agradable, pero para nosotros, que vivimos en el trópico, se siente como si nevara. Las calles se ven más vacías, todo adquiere un tono apagado… y confieso que no es mi época favorita del año: yo soy más de verano, de sol y de playa.

Even so, with that gray undertone, I set off on my journey. I headed east along Malecón Avenue, towards Guanabacoa. As I passed the Hotel Nacional, I couldn't resist taking pictures of that giant perched on the rock; it always looks imposing. With the cloudy sky, it seemed even more majestic, like a sentinel of the sea.

Aun así, con ese matiz gris, emprendí mi recorrido. Tomé por la avenida Malecón rumbo al este de la ciudad, hacia Guanabacoa. Al pasar frente al Hotel Nacional, no pude resistirme a tomarle fotos ese gigante erguido sobre la roca, siempre luce imponente. Con el cielo nublado, parecía aún más majestuoso, como un centinela del mar.

We continued along the avenue, where in some sections the sea peeked out with its playful foam and waves crashing against the wall. I love it when the sky is blue and the clouds white, but I must admit that this gray, rainy weather lends an air of mystery and poetry to the landscape.

Seguimos por la avenida, donde en algunos tramos se asomaba el mar con su espuma juguetona y las olas golpeando el muro. Me encanta cuando el cielo está azul y las nubes blancas, pero debo admitir que este clima gris y lluvioso le da un aire de misterio y poesía al paisaje.

Upon arriving in Guanabacoa, the grayness persisted, but walking its streets always awakens warm emotions in me. I lived there for over fifteen years, and it was a very special time in my life: my son grew up there, we forged lasting friendships, and every corner holds a story.

Al llegar a Guanabacoa, el gris persistía, pero caminar por sus calles siempre me despierta emociones cálidas. Viví allí más de quince años, y fue una etapa muy especial de mi vida: allí creció mi hijo, forjamos amistades que aún perduran, y cada rincón guarda una historia.

The consulting office is next to La Fátima Maternity Hospital. Just past the hospital stands a large, well-known house, and next to it is the office where the bookkeeper was waiting for me. We spent two hours reviewing and updating the documentation for Chocolates Alile, which, fortunately, was in order. She offered me some helpful advice, and I took the opportunity to update several documents.

La oficina de consultoría está junto al hospital materno La Fátima. Justo después del hospital se alza una gran casona muy conocida por todos, y al lado se encuentra la oficina donde me esperaba la tenedora de libros. Pasamos dos horas revisando la documentación de Chocolates Alile, que afortunadamente estaba en orden. Me ofreció algunos consejos útiles y aproveché para actualizar varios documentos.

I returned home happy and with my mind full of new tools to continue perfecting the controls and performance of my business. And, of course, with some photos that I'm sharing here as part of this #wednesdaywalk with our friend @tattoodjay, who invites us every week to walk, observe, and share.

Regresé a casa feliz y con la mente llena de nuevas herramientas para seguir perfeccionando los controles y el rendimiento de mi negocio.
