Like any city with a long tradition, Vranje has mixed styles of architecture. The museum houses we visited in the previous sequels are an example of the architecture that dominated during the Ottoman rule.

With the liberation from the Turks that Vranje experienced in 1878, the rise of crafts and trade began, and with them the influence of the Austrian style of construction. This can be seen on the examples of the Gymnasium building, Kostić’s house, but also on the examples of the buildings of the Administration and the Palace of Justice on the central city square.

The central square is an ideal place to make a remember photo from this trip.

However, the true historical treasure is preserved in the National Museum of Vranje, which is located in this building built in a characteristic Oriental style.

In front of the building there is a monument to the famous interpreter of folk songs from this area, Staniša Stošić.

Among the documents in the Museum, you will find a short history of Vranje from 1093, that is, from the time of Nemanjić Dynasty, in Serbian and English. A special period is certainly the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century, when crafts and trade developed especially, the city itself began to grow and its inhabitants enjoyed a high standard for that period, as shown by exhibits of jewelry, clothing and furniture from that time.

There are not many objections to Vranje. Perhaps the only thing is that it is still dominated by Latin inscriptions. But when you find a Cyrillic one…
