Needle Work Monday - The heat wave forced me to continue my summer sewing project. / La ola de calor me obligó a continuar con mi proyecto de costura de verano. 😒❤️

18 consecutive days of intense heat have passed in the province of Buenos Aires and for the moment it seems that this will not be otherwise. At the beginning of this week all of us were hoping that on Wednesday it would rain and cool down a bit, but instead we had 5 minutes of drizzle and the temperature didn't change. With a more humid climate than before, we continue to have days of more than 30°C that force us to spend all day outside getting fresh air, and this is what made me have to continue with the outdoor chairs, a project that I was planning to postpone until the next summer 😅.
Han pasado 18 días seguidos de calor intenso en la provincia de Buenos Aires y por el momento parece que esto no va a ser de otra forma. Al principio de esta semana todos nosotros teníamos la esperanza de que el miércoles lloviera y baje un poco a temperatura, pero en lugar de eso tuvimos 5 minutos de llovizna y la temperatura ni se alteró. Con un clima más húmedo que antes, seguimos teniendo días de más de 30°C que nos obligan a estar todo el día afuera tomando aire, y esto es lo que me hizo tener que continuar con las sillas de exterior, proyecto que pensaba postergar hasta el verano que viene 😅.
A little over a month ago I had the idea of restoring some old chairs that were in my house, with the intention of keeping them outside for hot days. At that time I was excited and wanted to do a few, but the reality is that I only finished one, then I went on a trip, later I started working teaching classes and little by little the chair project was forgotten. I thought that since autumn and cold were already approaching, it would not be necessary for the moment to have another chair outside, but since the forecast is strange, I decided to complete at least one more 😀.
Hace poco más de un mes tenía la idea de restaurar unas sillas viejas que estaban en mi casa, con la intención de que queden afuera para los días de calor. En ese momento estaba entusiasmada y quería hacer unas cuantas, pero la realidad es que solo terminé una, luego me fui de viaje, más tarde empecé a trabajar dando clases y poco a poco el proyecto de las sillas quedó en el olvido. Pensé que como ya se estaba acercando el otoño y el frío, por el momento no sería necesario tener otra silla más afuera, pero dado que el pronóstico está raro, decidí completar aunque sea una más 😀.---
Doing this project is one of the simplest because you only need two rectangles with the measurements of the seat and the back. I'm used to other types of projects where I have to pay more attention, but this one only needs straight seams on a flat fabric and it couldn't be easier. While I did it, which took me less than an hour, I was chatting with my aunts via video call, catching up on family gossip. By the way, I invited them to my house whenever they want to be able to use the chairs for the first time having something cool outside ❤️.
Hacer este proyecto es de los más sencillos porque solo se necesitan dos rectángulos de las medidas del asiento y el respaldo. Estoy acostumbrada a otro tipo de proyectos en donde debo prestar más atención, pero este solo necesita costuras rectas en una tela plana y más sencillo no podría ser. Mientras lo hice, que me tomó menos de una hora, estuve charlando con mis tías por videollamada, poniendonos al corriente sobre los chismes de la familia. De paso, las invité a mi casa cuando quieran para poder estrenar las sillas tomando algo fresco afuera ❤️.
The fabric I used for this seat is a somewhat thick canvas, so this time I did the right things and changed my needle to a thicker one. I usually sew everything with the same fine lingerie needle, but in the last few projects I've done I've broken more than 3 and I said "OK, time to listen to the specs". My regular needle is a number 11, but this time I used a 14 and everything flowed perfectly, and most importantly, it didn't break in the process 😀.
La tela que usé para este asiento es una lona algo gruesa, por lo que esta vez hice las cosas correctas y cambié mi aguja por una más gruesa. Generalmente coso todo con la misma aguja fina de lencería, pero en los últimos proyectos que hice se me rompieron más de 3 y dije "OK, es momento de hacerle caso a las especificaciones". Mi aguja regularmente es una número 11, pero esta vez usé una 14 y todo fluyó perfectamente, y lo más importante: no se me rompió en el proceso 😃.
We now have two new chairs so we can use them outside and not have to bring the ones from the dining room table. The one I made first we used a lot, I even think it's time to rinse the fabric a bit because it looks a bit dark compared to the new one. Like everything in my house, one of my cats had to do quality control on the new acquisition, and from what I see, the seat was very comfortable 😃.
Ahora tenemos dos sillas nuevas para poder usar afuera y no tener que llevar las de la mesa del comedor. La que hice primero la usamos bastante, hasta creo que ya es tiempo de enjuagar un poco la tela porque se ve un poco oscura en comparación a la nueva. Como todo en mi casa, uno de mis gatos tuvo que hacer control de calidad a la nueva adquisición, y por lo que veo, el asiento quedó muy cómodo 😃.---
I'd like to take my own word for it and think I'm going to finish even two more chairs, but I don't know when that's going to happen. We have more than 6 of these chairs and I would love to have the complete set, but I have a hard time concentrating and starting to sew because I always get distracted by other projects that I like more :p I was reviewing and I have light blue fabric enough to make even one more per now: if the heat wave continues and forces the whole family to have to be outside cooling off, surely I will have to sew other chair these days 😅.
Me gustaría creer en mi propia palabra y y pensar que voy a terminar aunque sea dos sillas más, pero no sé cuando va a pasar eso. Tenemos más de 6 sillas de estas y me encantaría tener el juego completo, pero me cuesta concentrarme y arrancar a coser porque siempre me distraigo con otros proyectos que me gustan más :p Estuve revisando y tengo tela celeste como para hacer aunque sea una más por ahora: si la ola de calor sigue y obliga a toda la familia a tener que estar afuera refrescandose, seguramente también la termine en estos días 😅.--- ---
