I don't think that even permanent residents of Ushuaia who love trekking will be able to complete all the beautiful trails around the city. However, in my relatively long instance in this part of my country, I was able to do most of the most beautiful ones. I am glad to know that my days in the mountains were well spent, and that I walked as much as I could while I could. I even found a trail guide that highlighted the ‘top 25’, and it was great to discover that I had already done almost all of them 😃.
Creo que ni siquiera los residentes permanentes de Ushuaia que aman el trekking podrán completar todos los senderos hermosos que hay para hacer en los alrededores de la ciudad. Sin embargo, en mi relativamente larga instancia por esta parte de mi país, pude hacer la mayoría de los más hermosos. As time went on, I found it increasingly difficult to get trekking partners to go to other remote places in the mountains. However, I did not regret this too much, as over the days I had managed to form a stable group of people to go on casual treks. For this, the Couchsurfing meetings were key for me, thanks to which I was able to meet those who became my ‘permanent’ friends in my last three months in Ushuaia.
A medida que el tiempo fue pasando, cada vez me costaba más conseguir compañeros de trekking para ir a otros lugares remotos entre las montañas. Sin embargo, no me lamentaba mucho por esto, ya que con el correr de los días había logrado formar un grupo de gente estable para ir a hacer paseos casuales. Para ello, las reuniones de Couchsurfing fueron claves para mí, gracias a las cuales pude conocer a los que fueron mis amigos "permanentes" en mis últimos tres meses en Ushuaia.
Edgar, Naty and Tali were the ones with whom I formed the most lasting friendships there. This group of four hit it off very well, and from time to time we would invite a guest of the hostel with us. A few days earlier we had discovered the convenience of renting a car for about $52 per day, so for a little more than $10 per person we could go for a drive anywhere around the city. Of all of us, the only one who knew how to drive was Naty so she was our driver.

Before taking the car out for the first time by going somewhere super far away, Naty liked to go for a little drive nearby to see how it worked. A good option for a short walk in nature is the one to the Bridal Veil Waterfall, just 2 km outside the city. The four of us already knew this waterfall, but that day we also invited a guest called Fabri, with whom I had shared a trek the day before. This was the third time I had seen this waterfall, but the force of the falling water did not cease to amaze me as it did the first time I saw it.
Antes de estrenar el auto yendo a algún lugar super lejos, a Naty le gustaba dar una pequeña vuelta cerca para ver cómo funcionaba. Una buena opción de paseo corto pero en la naturaleza es aquel hacia la Cascada Velo de Novia, a solo 2 km de las afueras de la ciudad. Nosotros cuatro ya conocíamos esta cascada, pero ese día también invitamos a un huésped llamado Fabri, con quien yo había compartido un trekking el día anterior. Esa era la tercera vez que veía esa cascada, pero la fuerza del agua cayendo no me dejó de sorprender como la primera vez que la ví.
On our way to the waterfall, in the glove compartment of the rented car we found an interesting guidebook about trekking in Ushuaia. It listed 25 must-do trails in this city, according to the author. Of all of them, I had already done most of them, and I just couldn't go to the ones where I would have had to go with someone who knew the way beforehand. Just to mention a few, this list included many of the treks I have already shared on this blog, such as Ojo del Albino Glacier, Laguna Esmeralda, Turquoise Lagoon, Vinciguerra Glacier, Laguna Submarino and Cerro Guanaco. The truth is, the writer of this little book chose a good top of trails.
Cuando estábamos yendo a la cascada, en la guantera del auto alquilado encontramos una interesante guía sobre trekking en Ushuaia. Esta listaba 25 senderos imperdibles en esta ciudad, según el autor. De todos ellos, yo ya había hecho la gran mayoría, y solo no pude ir a los que necesariamente hubiese tenido que ir con alguien que conociera el camino previamente. Solo por mencionar algunos, esta lista incluía a muchos de los trekkings que ya compartí en este blog, como el Glaciar Ojo del Albino, Laguna Esmeralda, Laguna Turquesa, Glaciar Vinciguerra, Laguna Submarino y Cerro Guanaco. La verdad, un buen top de senderos eligió quien escribió este pequeño libro.
As we sat drinking mate in front of the Bridal Veil Waterfall I had one of my many moments of gratitude to the universe that I was experiencing all this. I still find it hard to believe that I was in all those beautiful places, and that I was free to go wherever I wanted. The trails I have left to do will always be a good excuse to come back to Ushuaia, and the friends I made along the way are the perfect reasons to keep going to other parts of the country. It was an incredible few days, I'm happy to have lived them to the fullest ❣️.
Mientras nos sentamos a tomar mate enfrente de la cascada Velo de Novia tuve uno de mis tantos momentos de agradecimiento con el universo por estar viviendo todo eso. Todavía me cuesta creer que estuve en todos esos lugares hermosos, y que fui libre para ir a donde quería. Los senderos que me quedan pendientes siempre serán una buena excusa para volver a Ushuaia, y los amigos que hice en el camino son las razones perfectas para seguir paseando a otras partes del país. Fueron unos días increíbles, estoy feliz por haberlos vivido al máximo ❣️.
