We have a school system in Nigeria that involves being on uniforms and I know it's not something that's taken lightly in most schools in Nigeria. However, the school I attended during my secondary school took the seriousness of being on uniforms to a new height.
We were compelled to always dress up in our trousers, white shirt, tie and tie clips. This goes without saying that you the uniform has to be neat and well ironed. After spending time in secondary school, I went to a very reputable University to study Banking and Finance. We also had a uniform in the department; black trousers, sky-blue shirt, and black tie.
After passing through University, I spent a year working in the marketing unit of one of the top Commercial Banks in Nigeria.
Bruh! Was I always dressed up?
You bet! I've become very accustomed to dressing up for myself and I like to dress in a way that makes me feel good.
Things I consider when choosing what to wear;
1. My Comfort: Even if I'm at home and I'm all alone, I can't afford to wear anything that inconveniences me in any way. This also applies when I'm dressing up for an event, an occasion or just for a casual walkaround. The first rule I abide by when selecting what to wear is comfort. If I'm comfortable wearing any dress, I'm surely going to rock it with pleasure.
2. The Occasion: The next thing I consider when choosing what to wear is 'the occasion' and I believe this has to be said out loud. You will never see me get suited up just because I want to go and see a football game. Never! There is this trend of guys wearing overly shredded jeans to formal dinner events. Goodness me! What's that?
3. The Fittings: Have you seen any of those pictures of people in the 80s and how they rocked their baggy outfits? That was an era where baggy shirts and trousers were the norm and that seems to be a trend in recent years. Well, that's good for those that rock it. But, that ain't me. Seriously, I can't imagine myself walking down the street in a baggy outfit. My heart will skip multiple beats and it will be for the wrong reasons. Haha. I have a very good physique and I like my dress to be well fitted.
How hard is it for me to dress up?
Errmm... Is that supposed to be hardwork? Lol. Seriously, dressing up or picking an outfit for anything is the easiest thing I do before washing up. Yeah, I often have a very clear idea of what to wear even before washing up.
I believe part of why I never get stressed up about what to wear is because I don't buy my outfit out of peer pressure or due to any FOMO of any sort. I buy outfits that are very suitable to my style and I often like to buy multipurpose clothes I can wear to Church and still wear to a sophisticated Seminar.
In addition to that, all my clothes are placed on hangers and they are well arranged in my wardrobe. I have two wardrobes, by the way. One of them is where I hang dresses I wear to highly sophisticated events while the other is where I hang my casual wears. So, depending on what's on the table, I already know the wardrobe to open and grab a nice outfit.
It's quite simple in its way.
