Binance among crypto exchanges hit by Amazon Web Services outage

Binance, along with other major cryptocurrency exchanges such as KuCoin and MEXC, experienced service disruptions due to a significant outage at Amazon Web Services (AWS) on April 15, 2025. The AWS outage caused connectivity issues affecting at least 12 AWS services, which led to transaction failures and forced Binance and KuCoin to temporarily suspend withdrawals.
Binance acknowledged the problem as a "temporary network interruption in the AWS data center," which caused some orders to fail while others succeeded. Withdrawals on Binance were suspended briefly but resumed about 15 minutes later as systems gradually recovered. Despite the resumption, some users continued to face delays and difficulties on both Binance and KuCoin.
Users reacted to the Binance and KuCoin service disruptions caused by the AWS outage with frustration and concern over delayed or failed transactions, including withdrawals and order placements.
Other crypto platforms also reported temporary service unavailability linked to the AWS disruption. MEXC users experienced issues like failed order cancellations, asset transfer delays etc., though the exchange assured that user funds remained secure and planned compensation for any losses incurred.
This incident highlighted the vulnerability of centralized crypto exchanges relying heavily on a single cloud service provider like AWS, raising concerns about the risks of centralized infrastructure in the crypto industry, which ideally promotes decentralization.
