Facebook Rebrands Its Calibra Wallet: It’s Now Known as Novi

Remember Calibra? I actually thought the project Libra have been abandoned and will never see light of day considering the scrutiny it received from governments and even the crypto community.
If memory serves me right Libra was supposed to be launch where around April 2020, I guess the scrutiny and partners pulling out of the project could have caused the delay or the coronavirus effect. I sure we can blame most things on coronavirus and get away with it this year.
Interestingly project Libra is still here with Facebook determined to have it launched but there is a name change, novi kind of a catchy name I must admit.
Here's the inspiration behind the name novi;
Facebook introduced today the new name Novi, inspired by the Latin words “novus” for “new” and “via” for “way.” David Marcus, co-creator and board member of Libra, said the name change was necessary because “there was more confusion than we wanted” with the previous version.
So users of novi will guaranteed no hidden...
There will be no hidden charges to add, send, receive, or withdraw money, and your transfers will arrive instantly. All Novi customers will be verified using government-issued ID, and fraud protections will be built in throughout the app.” – reads the announcement.
Well I will leave that for individuals to decide upon that. No surprise it is going to be permissioned blockchain, another interesting change will be the development of various digital coins back by different government currency and off course KYC is needed for you to use novi.
I tend to look forward to the launch of Libra now novi because of the possible exposure it might give permissionless blockchains/cryptocurrencies.
Sometime last year I read about some developer(s) awaiting the launch of Libra(novi) so they can fork it and make it permissionless. Now that's going to be super interesting!
