Splinterlands Weekly Challenge Battle BATTLE MAGE SECRETS! Rise of the Commons and outlasting my opponent

Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a rule set using a specific card and on this week's post it is a battle with the Rise of the Commons rule set. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.
Rule set, Battle and Plan
The ruleset this time is Rise of the Commons. This means no epic or legendary monsters can be used in this battle. There is also 12 mana available and I am left with the choice of fire, water, or death splinter.
The summoner I chose to use this time is Thaddius Brood. It decreases health and magic damage by 1 on my opponent. It is also my highest-level death summoner so I can use my cards to their highest level.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Thaddius Brood | 4 | Summoner | -1 Magic and Health |
Cursed Windeku | 6 | 1st | Heal and Thorns |
Xenith Archer | 2 | 2nd | |
Total Mana: | 12 |
I plan to use Cursed Windeku as my tank for the heal and thorns ability. My 2nd monster is Xenith Archer as a ranged damage dealer. With such a low mana cap, I think the heal ability on my tank is enough. It is possible for me to still lose but anything could happen.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that I have an advantage in this match. My opponent can deal 4 damage per turn (due to weapons training) and I can heal 3 damage per turn. So if I can kill off the melee monster, I have this match won. So I will be able to outlast my opponent and win this match. Also, my opponent does not have a sneak monster so I will have some extra damage from my ranged monster in the back.
Round 2
My opponent lost one monster and this means that I won this match. Any damage that my opponent deals will be healed up by my tank every round. So there is no way for my opponent to win and I have a speed advantage.
I won the match a few rounds later without any issues.
Conclusion
The battle went exactly as I expected. My opponent relied on weapons training to boost his damage but I had a counter to that with a tank that could heal. My opponent couldn't overpower the healing that I had and I was able to take out my opponents without any issue. I did have a level advantage but I don't think it would have affected anything. We could not use epic or legendary cards and the low mana cap restricted what we could use. So Cursed Windeku was the amazing card that led to my win. It's my best death tank and that is why I like using it.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players play in a ruleset.
