A visit to the Forest of Bojcin in Serbia

Hello everyone, I hope you are doing great. I recently visited a forest near Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. We have heard about this forest for a long time, but we have never gone before, even though it is very close to our city. It is called Forest of Bojcin. My family was up for an adventure so we headed there.
When we arrived we liked the greenery all around.
As soon as we entered the forest, we came across a traditional restaurant called Bojcin coleba. There were a lot of people there and my kids were hungry so we stopped in for lunch.
It is an interesting place, decorated in traditional Srem style.
Srem is part of Vojvodina, a province of Serbia in the north of the country, and this place belongs to that province. This area is famous for pigs called mangulica, so the restaurant recommended us to eat mangulica bacon and it was very good. 😊
My children were curious and after lunch started to explore the surroundings. They found mushrooms! 😊
It was a very strange feeling to walk on swampy ground. There were a lot of annoying insects. But I think it only bothered me and no one else because my kids had a pretty good time. They found a swing where they could swing together and that was their highlight of our trip.
The forest is not large, but I heard that there is a rather long trail for the most persistent hikers. We walked around a bit, but the ground was quite wet, so I had the impression that we were going to fall through it. In the distance we saw an old, small abandoned house, strange in shape and appearance.
We started down the path towards it and the closer we got, the more excited my children got. We were finally there. It was a mud house with a thatched roof.
During the First and Second World Wars, Forest of Bojcin was known for such houses where soldiers hid.
We peeked through the window and what a surprise! The house was fully furnished as if time had stood still!😊
I didn't expect to see that. My children were also surprised. The house was locked, so we couldn't go inside. There was a fountain in front of the house. It seemed as if someone lived there, but no, it was empty.
We wanted to walk more, but mosquitoes started attacking us, so we went home. Forest of Bojcin was an interesting discovery that we have only just begun to discover.
Thank you very much for reading.
The images and writing are original and mine.
