My Baguio Escapade After 11 Years
3 comments
If I'm not mistaken, I was eight years old the last time we visited the Summer Capital of the Philippines. Just imagine my excitement when my mom informed me we would go to Baguio as a stressed nineteen-year-old. I didn't appreciate these memories when I was a kid. But as I get older, my interest in these rare opportunities has cultivated my soul. Without further ado, let's get started!
Kennon Road
This road is one of the routes you can take after passing La Union, Pangasinan. We had a choice to take Marcos Highway, but the driver decided we should take Kennon Road to avoid experiencing traffic. It's a big dream come true for my mature self to witness the different camps and rocks. You must encounter some obstacles on the trip, but it is not a big problem. All my life, I thought it was Baguio, but we are still in Tuba, Benguet.
Lion's Head
Don't trust someone who said they have already visited Baguio but don't know this place's existence. Introducing Lion's Head, a somehow remarkable tourist destination as it represents that you have successfully visited Baguio. Compared to the previous decade, this place has installed various stalls to buy Baguio merchandise. They also have a standee where you can put your head to capture how you would look if you were an Igorot. I love this initiative, but you must pay 10 PHP per head. Aside from that, there's a corresponding cost every time you go to the comfort room. I was also speechless when I asked the taho vendor for a 10 PHP taho, but they said the lowest price was 50 PHP. I feel so humiliated by my actions, but at least I learned.
Camp John Hay
We didn't stay here for an extended period, but this is where we stayed to eat our breakfast. Based on what I heard, you must pay P300 per table, which is meant for only three hours. But since we're only staying here for about 30 minutes, my aunt has tried to bargain the price. During these times, I'm talking with my cousin from Singapore, and taking the initiative to speak with her helped me enhance my English skills. I thought we were staying here for about an hour to try various activities, but our driver said we should move to our next tourist destination.
Bamboo Sanctuary
After a few minutes of ride, we're finally here. What I like about this tourist destination is that we can enter here without the fees needed. Since I wanted to indulge the moment, I took a vlog about the different bamboo species. Of course, would I forget to take photos? We also went hiking to discover breathtaking views, but unfortunately, we only had limited time to stroll around the area. It is one of the educational spots I recommended if that's your bucket list on Baguio!
Wright Park
I feel bad since we only stayed here for 30 minutes. The driver said that it was not a good idea to stay here for good since we still have many places to tour. But anyway, this is where you can do horse riding and experience panting from the 1000 steps. Unfortunately, we haven't experienced those moments, but we were able to take a pic of a horse and also collected tons of pictures from different scenes.
Mines View
This is one of my favorites so far. In this tourist destination, you will be able to take a look at the aerial view of Baguio, and you can also wear Igorot's indigenous costumes. As a broke guy, I decided not to wear them because there is a corresponding cost. If I have a means to pay, why not? What matters is that I secured collecting many pictures and talked with my other cousins. Since it is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Baguio, it's already expected to see stalls selling merchandise, and only my other relatives bought them.
SM Baguio
Finally, the moment that I've been waiting for. Overstaying here is why we didn't get to peek at Strawberry Farm. Waiting for our food in Mang Inasal almost took us an hour. This is also where I withdrew cash since I planned to spend something once we reached our final tourist spot. One of the factors that contributed to why we stayed here for too long was when we got lost looking for our service. Anyway, I enjoyed strolling from SM Baguio, which is very different from the existing SM since it has no air conditioner.
Igorot Stone Kingdom Inc.
Among all the tourist destinations, this was the most memorable since I collected a lot of memories. I took many pictures, fought back my fear of heights, and built more relationships with my cousins. Since our aunt paid 100 PHP per person, we decided to make the most of it. I couldn't help but be a bit anxious since I might get sick since there was a drizzle, but I was glad it didn't happen. After getting down, we didn't realize how easy it was to climb to the top. All we thought was, "That's it?"
Burnham Park
Sad to say that this is the last, though. To enjoy our stay, we rode a trike for 100 PHP, which was suitable for a 30-minute ride. If you think that it is terrible, I guess, but I swear that you will enjoy it. During my visit, I saw famous cartoon mascots dancing to popular TikTok songs, and I finally gave in to my temptation to try their delicious ice cream and strawberry taho. Before going home, I bought strawberry jam, ube jam, and peanut butter for my parents for only 100 pesos. I wanted to purchase a keychain, but that's not economical, especially since my budget is tight.
Time to go home
Before we went home, the SUV stopped at the famous market in Baguio, where my two aunts bought fresh vegetables. We had dinner at a Pangasinan restaurant and tried Arroz Caldo, which I didn't realize was similar to Lugaw. I want to share more about our experience, but that would be more redundant. If they only had an allotted budget to spend money on booking hotels to explore all the tourist spots without limitations, I think our experiences would be better.
