Stock Market 101:: Four Types of TRADERs - Which ONE are YOU?
Hey All,
I was looking for a new community where I could share everything I write on finance from my Stock Market 101 series blog posts to broader discussions on traditional finance. And now, here we go. We finally have a new community on HIVE called
created by @hurtlocker - which allows you to post high quality content related to traditional finance, investing, markets, and educational resources for readers. All you need to do is subscribe to the community and once you are approved as a member then you can post on its that SIMPLE. We already have 16+ members, and the list is growing steadily. Back to the topic of this post which is around the types of traders then have a look at the following image it should give you a pretty good understanding of how each trading style works based on speed, profit potential, and risk level.
Four Types of TRADERs - Which ONE are YOU?
First a word on the above imgae which I got via my facebook feed. I liked the image so much that I thought I will do a post around it. And see here I am talking about it. We have the 4 types of traders in the stock market but there could be many more but for now let us restrict to these four types and each being represented by an animal and defined by speed, profit potential, and risk level. Here is the high level summary to all of these traders.
1 - Scalping Trading (Being Represted as - Tiger)
- Timeframe: 1M, 5M (very short)
- High speed, high profit, high risk
- Traders rely heavily on technical indicators and fast execution tools
2 - Day Trading (Being Represted as - Lion)
- Timeframe: 15M, 30M (within the same day)
- Medium speed, high profit, medium risk
- Requires strong discipline to close all positions before market close
3 - Swing Trading (Being Represted as - Rabbit)
- Timeframe: 1H, 4H (a few days or short term)
- Medium speed, medium profit, low risk
- Focuses on capturing short-term market trends using chart patterns and momentum
4 - Position Trading (Being Represted as - Turtle)
- Timeframe: 1D, 1W (long term)
- Low speed, medium profit, low risk
- Based on long term market outlook, fundamentals, and macroeconomic trends
In conclusion, I would like to clarify that I am not a trader; instead, I consider myself a long term investor. I put my money into the markets with patience and a vision for long term growth, and I only exit my positions when I am in profit. Otherwise, I prefer to continue holding my investments and follow the #HODL mindset while consistently applying the DCA [Dollar Cost Average] strategy until I achieve a decent and satisfactory return. This approach aligns more with stability and long term compounding rather than rushing for quick gains. And finally - Also we can say that::
- Faster trading = higher profit potential but higher risk. And whereas
- Slower trading = more stable, lower risk but slower returns.
Well this should be it for todays post on - "Stock Market 101:: Four Types of TRADERs - Which ONE are YOU?" Always exercise caution before investing, do your research, and make decisions based on your own financial goals and risk tolerance. Happy Investing... Cheers
