Coffee for Gods [Week 79]
On many occasions, I have expressed my love for coffee. This relationship was born as a child thanks to my grandmother, Francy. My mother did not object to it, and my father much less so. I am a descendant of a great family of coffee drinkers.
A day cannot begin without a good cup of coffee. The first family meeting is a time to discuss the day's plans and activate the senses.
In our family, we have the habit of drinking coffee at home. We think that it is a family ritual, of union, of love. I can only drink coffee in a commercial establishment dedicated to serving coffee in cases such as going out with a friend or a co-worker. That is why I have few or no images of me drinking coffee outside the home.
It is not that I do not like espresso coffee made with an Italian machine by a good barista, it is just that I am used to coffee at home.
At home, I prepare coffee early, when I get up. Two measures are placed in the cloth bag for brewing coffee and covered with just the right amount of boiling water. This makes three or four cups of coffee. If it is necessary to make more during the day, the procedure is carried out, but first, the coffee bag must be washed. The bag is always washed after the preparation has been made. In other words, it is a ritual.
With the two measures, it is enough to make a robust coffee that leaves a wonderful taste on the palate and awakens my whole being. If for some reason I have to drink coffee in the street, I ask that it be made with an espresso machine and that it be totally coffee, without milk or anything else. To this, I add a small portion of sugar. That is like for the gods.
Therefore, I do not declare myself a coffee saver, but I am not a waster either. I only give it its fair value. Today in my country coffee is produced in a state called Trujillo. The brand of this coffee is called “La Protectora”. I discovered this brand in 2018 and from that moment on it is the one that accompanies me. I have tried other national brands, but none has captivated me like this one. In Colombia, I used to drink another brand, but I don't remember the name. I have tried to get my son to send it to me, but at the time of writing this post several photographs arrived, but not of the Colombian brand. Colombia produces very good coffee.
