Hello, friends. Just a few days ago, I shared a post with you showing you the progress of a project I've been working on for months. It's the only thing I've been working on for days, so I wanted to share another moving part I made for this action figure, which I practically made from scratch.

Well, today I would like to share with you the last step I took before the final step, which will be, in my opinion, the most beautiful one: the painting process. The last thing I did was to finish the figure in terms of stability, that is, to finish the tail so that it can stand completely upright. As you can see in the image below.

Saludos amigos. Hace apenas unos cuantos días compartí con ustedes una publicación en donde les mostré el avance de un trabajo que estoy haciendo desde hace meses. Es lo único en lo que he estado trabajando desde hace días así que quería compartir otra parte móvil que hice de esta figura de acción que prácticamente hice desde cero.

Bien, hoy me gustaría compartir el último paso que hice con ustedes antes del paso final, que será, en mi opinión, el más bonito, el proceso de pintado. Esto último que hice fue terminar la figura en cuanto estabilidad, es decir, terminarle la cola para que pueda mantenerse completamente erguido. Tal como pueden ver en la imagen de abajo.

Por eso, los invito a acompañarme en tan crucial y definitivo penúltimo paso de este gran proyecto.

Step by step

Okay, in the image below you can see the paper and wood structure I made earlier, all held together firmly with glue. This is the base on which I began to build the tail.

Paso a paso

Bien, en la imagen de abajo pueden observar la estructura de papel y madera que hice anteriormente, todo unido fuertemente con pegamento. Esta es la base sobre la cual comencé a construir la cola.

I started as you can see in the image below, section by section. The great thing about it being made of paper is that I can separate it and work on it in sections.

The base was already ready, so I just started covering it with flexible clay to begin shaping it into what this tail should look like, with pieces of material cut into polygonal shapes and shapes similar to mechanical parts. In the end, that's the idea, to make it look like a robotic tail.

Comencé tal como ven en la imagen de abajo, por secciones. Lo genial que esté hecha de papel es esto, que puedo separarla y trabajar en esta por secciones.

La base ya estaba lista, así que solo comencé a cubrirla con masa flexible para comenzar a darle la forma que debería tener esta cola, con trozos de material cortado de formas poligonales y con formas similares a partes mecánicas. Al final esa es la idea, que parezca una cola robótica.

To join this piece to the other part of the tail, I made this joint that has two sections, one that will allow the tail to move up and down, and another section that will allow it to rotate on its own axis, like a drill, so to speak.

Para unir esta pieza con la otra parte de la cola, hice esta unión que tiene dos secciones, una que permitirá mover la cola hacia arriba y hacia abajo, además de otras sección que permitirá hacerla girar sobre su propio eje, como si fuese un taladro para que se entienda.

In the image below, you can see how this section of the tail attached to the new joint moves. This is the movement I was talking about, up and down.

En la imagen de abajo pueden ver como se mueve esta sección de la cola unida a la nueva unión. Este es el movimiento del que les hable, arriba y abajo.

After making the lower section, I continued with the upper section of the tail, which is basically the same as the other section but much thicker. This is the section that has the axle where the tail can rotate.

Después de hacer la sección de abajo, continué con la sección superior del a cola, que básicamente es igual que la otra sección pero mucho más gruesa. Esta es la que tiene el eje en donde podrá hacer rotación la cola.

The image below clearly shows how a section that can move up and down can also make a similar movement to that of the other piece.

En la imagen de abajo se observa claramente cómo puede hacer también un mismo movimiento similar al de la otra pieza, una sección que pueda moverse de arriba hacia abajo.

When the pieces were ready, I joined the shaft and the piece where it can rotate, so all the pieces of the tail were assembled. I should clarify that in some sections I used glue to strengthen the joints.

Cuando las piezas estuvieron listas, uní el eje y la pieza donde podrá rotar, así todas las piezas de la cola estuvieron ensambladas. Debo aclarar que en algunas secciones usé pegamento para dar fortaleza a las uniones.

In the image below, you can see the rotational movement on the axis that I already showed you. It is to give the tail better mobility.

En la imagen de abajo pueden observar el movimiento de rotación sobre el eje que ya les mostré, es para dar mejor movilidad a la cola.

Once all the material was dry, the only thing left to do was to fit the tail into place. At the back, the robot had a protrusion that fit perfectly into a hollow cylinder I made at the base of the tail.

Ya una vez seco todo el material, lo único que faltaba era encajar la cola en su sitio. En la parte trasera, el robot tenía un saliente que encaja perfecto en un cilindro hueco que hice en la base de la cola.

As you can see, despite being quite sturdy, it has great mobility both up and down and side to side.

Como ven, a pesar de ser bastante robusta, tiene una gran movilidad tanto arriba y abajo como hacia los lados.

This figurine is now complete, with only the final step remaining: the painting process, which I will show you later. Below you can see a series of photographs of the final result:
