Visiting the Pasar Malam in Woodlands area

Tomorrow is a celebration of Singapore's holiday, it's the Vesak day! It's one of the major holidays and it's celebrated by the Buddhist people.

And a good way to celebrate it is the launching of a Pasar Malam near our place in Woodlands. It gives out a feeling of festive mood and it makes me remember my happy childhood memories. I thought I'd show you the photos that I took during this visit. I enjoy going to a Pasar Malam because it's an entirely different experience than simply going to the mall. The truth is, many of the food and merchandise that are being sold here are the ones that I can also find in the mall. However, the environment is very different.

In Pasar Malam, there is no air conditioning because it's just a temporary shelter that is made up of steel frames and a big tent. Unlike a shopping mall, a pasar malam is loud. It's chaotic inside because every stall is doing all it can to hustle and get the attention of the goers. The stalls are competing for the customers' attention because they need to dish out their products as quickly as possible.

It doesn't have to be modern or techie, actually, most of the attractions in a pasar malam are low-tech. There are no video games or arcade games; instead, you can play popping balloons using darts and win some rewards; this kind of things that I remember enjoying during my childhood.

And of course, I got myself a good dinner after an hour of walking around the pasar malam. I got this meal at a Hawkers center near exit 5 of Woodlands MRT station. It's a Saba fish on a hot plate!
