I haven't changed my view that a particularly high bar should be set in regard to accusing somebody of lying. Just saying that somebody is wrong isn't really accusing that person of being anything other than a fallible human being like the rest of us. Lying, outside of special cases, says something negative about a person's character.

There is, however, a growing need to call out lies. There are people out there who are intelligent who also discovered that shotgunning lies is a reliable tactic. For some reason, if people have decided that you're more or less on their side, they don't really needcare about the lies. More than that, shotgunning lies seems to make it harder for people to call you out.

This really struck me hard when Malcolm Nance made his appearance on Bill Maher's show. I was bombarded with people asking me to tell me when Nance lied. It was easier to cite the one thing that he said that was true; but, that loses a certain impact.

It is possible to lie enough to make it impossible for opponents to follow what you're saying. It's also an effective way to make people who are trying to argue in good faith look bad.
