One old culture in Yoruba is that "men are not meant to be in the kitchen." Even if they want to, their wife will kick them out of the kitchen. Some ladies back in the day even felt disrespected when their husbands went to the kitchen to prepare meals for themselves, but guess what? We are in the 21st century, and things are bound to change. Even traditions and customs are bound to change.

While some people prefer to eat out, I prefer to make my food myself. I have never been a fan of eating out, probably because, while growing up, most of the food I ate was home-made. Even while going to school, my mom would wake up so early to prepare food for my siblings and me. So, eating out sometimes feels like something I would do when I didn't have food in my home.

Last night I made egusi stew, and the result turned out so well. I made a short video of myself in the kitchen with all the ingredients ready before I started cooking.

One thing about my cooking is that I see it as normal already, even with a tight schedule, which always makes me prepare for the unseen circumstances. I always have different soups in my fridge; the one for rice or swallow food is always in my fridge, so making a fast meal is always easy. Now, if I can't make a fast meal, I will just settle for noodles.

One of the reasons I don't often eat out is because I feel it's a waste of money. I will only eat out if I am accompanied by friends and we eat in groups, but going out to eat individually is never my thing. I remember asking a friend on a date, to which she agreed; she asked for the location, and I said, "My house." I'm sure many thoughts were going through her mind the way she questioned me. "Why your house?" she said. At that time, I never saw a reason to go out because I have food, Netflix, and games at home, so what else do we need to do outside? Probably she was thinking I wanted to get down with her, but all I wanted was for her to taste my home-made food.
Even with my exhausted body, I will still make time to cook my food. If I had the money to buy the food, I would still cook it. It is very rare for me to eat out, and I can't remember the last time I had food outside my home.

One thing that makes me avoid fast food is that the cheap ones are sold in places where you would question the way the food was made and the hygiene of the person who prepared it, while the good ones are way too expensive for one to live off of them daily. Unless a person has millions of naira set aside in their account just for food, they can always eat out. If they eat at an expensive restaurant, then their money is bound to be spent on food.

Now, here are some of my home-made foods. Tell me why I would want to eat out when I can do this at home.
