A career change can take many different forms, from simply finding a new field to working from home. However, before you begin your search for a new career option, you’ll need to first understand the types of careers available to you. It’s important to understand the different career paths that are available to you so that you can make the right decision.

What does a Career Change Look Like?

If you’re considering a career change, there are a few key signs that you may be ready to make the switch. Here are a few of them:

You’re interested in exploring other career options You’re not completely happy with your current career, but you don’t want to leave your current job either You’re inspired by other people who’ve made the career change You’re able to identify with the following stereotypes: Older people - You’re not on the wrong side of your 30s or 40s! Women - You’re not a stay-at-home mom! Nerds - You’re not an engineer!

Decide if You’re Good at Something Else

One of the first things you’ll want to think about is whether you’re good at something else. After all, you can’t change your career path if you don’t even know what field you want to work in! Ask yourself: What do I like to do? This is the most important question. If you don’t love what you do, then you’ll never be successful in your career.

Some quick questions you can ask yourself to figure this out: What were my favorite things to do when I was in high school? Are there any skills I picked up during my job that I’d like to try and put to use again?

Network and Build Your Resume

Think of networking and building your resume. Build a solid resume while taking your time with decisions. Doing this will help you identify what you like to do and how you can incorporate those skills into your new career. Identify your skills and think about what you want to do in your new career. Talk to people in your field for advice. One idea is to identify a project and put your skills to use.

Take Action!

Start making a plan before you get started on your career change. Know what to do, when to do it, and what your goals are. This will help you stay focused on your path and make sure you don't miss any important steps along the way.

Prepare to be unsuccessful! You won't succeed the first time you try something new. It will take a few tries before you find a career path that works for you.
