It might seem like I'm repeating myself on this topic, but every day that passes I become more certain that it's necessary to talk about it, since there are still people who believe that success is something that can be achieved easily and without sacrifice.

Victory is not a gift or a stroke of luck. It's a transaction. It's the end result of a clear and often brutal sum of decisions. Everything I've accomplished that's worthwhile—every piece of music completed, every obstacle overcome—has had a precise cost, paid upfront and in hard cash. The most dangerous illusion is believing that you can gain something of value without giving something of equal value in return.

That price isn't abstract. It's paid in hours. In the hours you steal from sleep, from comfort, from family, from meaningless leisure. It's paid in discipline, in getting up when your body and mind are begging for another day of respite.

It's paid in renunciation. Saying "yes" to one important thing means saying "no" to ten pleasurable and immediate things. Victory is, in essence, the accumulation of all those "no's" said to distractions, to shortcuts, to easy gratification.

Many people want the title, the recognition, the feeling of having arrived. But they don't want the process. They hate the solitude of practice, the tedium of repetition, the humiliation of failed attempts, the uncertainty that lurks at every step. They want the diploma without having taken the courses. And when they don't get it, they talk about a lack of talent or bad luck.

They rarely talk about a lack of payment. Because talent is only the initial currency; what buys victory is persistence, sweat, and stubbornness.

Paying the price means accepting pain as part of the deal. The muscular pain of sustained physical exertion. The mental pain of concentrating to the point of exhaustion. The emotional pain of enduring criticism, rejection, and self-doubt. If you run from that pain, you forfeit victory. It's that simple. There are no shortcuts to circumvent this fundamental law. Shortcuts only lead to hollow prizes, to triumphs you can't respect because you know, deep down, that you didn't pay their true value.

I see it in my profession. Finding a good repertoire, writing new arrangements of works and adapting them for the concert guitar, learning them and practicing every day, several hours a day... it's not easy.

The price is that chair. It's that commitment to yourself. The writer who only writes when inspired isn't a professional; they're an amateur. The professional pays the price of sitting down and working, regardless of their mood. Victory, in the form of public acceptance and recognition, their applause and tears of emotion, is the direct consequence of that payment.

In the end, the willingness to pay the price is what separates desire from reality. It's the line that divides those who dream from those who do. It's not a question of ability, but of will.

Are you willing to exchange your time, your comfort, your habits, for that goal? If the answer is no, that's fine. But then you can't complain about the result. Victory doesn't discriminate based on origin or natural gifts. It only demands payment. And it waits, impassively, for you to decide whether to hand it over or not.

Pareciera que soy reiterativa sobre el tema, pero cada día que pasa me cercioro de que es necesario hablar sobre el tema, ya que siguen apareciendo personas que creen que el éxito es algo que se consigue con mucha facilidad y sin sacrificio.

La victoria no es un regalo ni un golpe de suerte. Es una transacción. Es el resultado final de una suma clara y a menudo brutal de decisiones. Cada cosa que he logrado que valiera la pena —cada obra musical terminado, cada obstáculo superado— ha tenido un coste preciso, pagado por adelantado y en moneda contante. La ilusión más peligrosa es creer que se puede ganar algo de valor sin entregar algo a cambio de igual magnitud.

Ese precio no es abstracto. Se paga en horas. En las horas que robas al sueño, a la comodidad, a la familia, al ocio sin sentido. Se paga en disciplina, en levantarte cuando tu cuerpo y tu mente piden un día más de tregua.
Se paga en renuncia. Decir "sí" a una cosa importante significa decir "no" a diez cosas placenteras e inmediatas. La victoria es, en esencia, la acumulación de todos esos "no" dichos a distracciones, a atajos, a la gratificación fácil.

Mucha gente quiere el título, el reconocimiento, la sensación de haber llegado. Pero no quieren el proceso. Odian la soledad de la práctica, el tedio de la repetición, la humillación de los intentos fallidos, la incertidumbre que acecha en cada paso. Quieren el diploma sin haber cursado las asignaturas. Y cuando no lo consiguen, hablan de falta de talento o de mala suerte.
Rara vez hablan de falta de pago. Porque el talento es sólo la moneda inicial; lo que compra la victoria es la persistencia, el sudor y la terquedad.

Pagar el precio significa aceptar el dolor como parte del trato. El dolor muscular del esfuerzo físico sostenido. El dolor mental de concentrarse hasta la fatiga. El dolor emocional de soportar críticas, rechazos y la propia duda. Si huyes de ese dolor, renuncias a la victoria. Es así de simple. No hay atajos que eviten esta ley fundamental. Los atajos sólo te llevan a premios huecos, a triunfos que no puedes respetar porque sabes, en tu interior, que no pagaste su valor real.

Yo lo veo en mi profesión. Buscar un buen repertorio, escribir nuevos arreglos de obras y adaptarlas para la guitarra de concierto, aprenderlas y estudiar cada día, varias horas diarias... no es sencillo.
El precio es esa silla. Es esa obligación contigo mismo. El escritor que sólo escribe cuando se siente inspirado no es un profesional; es un aficionado. El profesional paga el precio de sentarse y trabajar, independientemente de su estado de ánimo. La victoria, en forma de la aceptación y reconocimiento del público, sus aplausos y sus lágrimas de emoción es la consecuencia directa de ese pago.

Al final, la disposición para pagar el precio es lo que separa el deseo de la realidad. Es la línea que divide a los que sueñan de los que hacen. No es una cuestión de capacidad, sino de voluntad.
¿Estás dispuesto a cambiar tu tiempo, tu comodidad, tus hábitos, por ese objetivo? Si la respuesta es no, está bien. Pero entonces no puedes quejarte del resultado. La victoria no discrimina por origen o por dones naturales. Sólo exige el pago. Y espera, impasible, a que decidas si entregarlo o no.
