Cebu is known for its seafood. This abundance is something many OFWs miss so much. Our friend, Harvey is in Cebu for a vacation. Before he heads back to the US, we wanted to make sure that he will have an awesome time feasting on some of the best under the sea goodness and there is no better place to take him to but Entoy’s Bakasihan in Buagsong, Cordova.

If you’ve seen the Netflix Show Streetfood Asia in 2019, you might have heard of Entoy and his famous linarang nga bakasi. It is a type of eel that lives in the shallow parts of sandy and rocky seabeds and lagoons of tropical waters. It has a snake-like appearance. This eel is usually active at night and feeds on crustaceans and small fishes. The fisherfolks use homemade traps called the bantak – a cylindrical trap made of bamboo strips – to catch these eels.

According to his story, he thought of selling linarang na bakasi because the eel is abundant in Buagsong and the recipe is already a favourite among Cebuano diners. Little did he know that his simple recipe would make him famous not only in Cebu but in other parts of the world.

His carenderia still stands in its original location in Kamampay Beach. You will not miss it because of the cars, motorcycles, and bikes parked at the entrance. There seem to be no empty tables there especially in the morning when a majority of bikers, joggers, and families come to eat fresh seafood.

This morning, Harvey wanted to indulge in the goodness of fish, lambay (crabs), octopus, and seaweeds guso and lato. To make the experience even more memorable, we traded the usual rice for milled corn. Imagine eating all of these for only ₱750!

Entoy’s Bakasihan is on Kamampay Beach so you will have a great view of the sea while you eat.
