Deep Purple Plumes: Butterfly Bush in Bloom [Bonsai]

When a bonsai tree flowers, it is a magical time of the year.

Please enjoy some photos of this bonsai tree from my collection that has recently bloomed.

Known as the Butterfly Bush, this is an invasive tree with long spreading roots and shoots that often form along the trunk and up from the roots. It grows very fast. If properly tamed, it will be a spectacle and a joy to behold when it produces dazzling deep purple flowers.
This tree was pruned in early spring, and pinched a few times to encourage multiple shoots to grow up all around the tree.

In early Summer I stop pinching it, and eventually flower buds start to form in mid-summer. This Butterfly Bush loves to open its indigo violet flowers during the hottest days of the year. This seems to be the time of the year when the most pollinators are active.

My tree was grown from a cutting. In the last house we lived in our neighbor had many wild and flowering invasive trees, and this is one I plucked from one of the branches that was overhanging our fence.
