This last week as been insanely busy with birthdays and difficult parenting, but it's also been full of cats!! Both my own and cuddles stole from other people's cats! Does this make me a terrible person? Lexi certainly made me feel that way after smelling the other cats I'd been petting over the weekend and then only showing me her backside 😜 She first cuddled up to @zakludick before defrosting and forgiving me.
I must mention, in my defense, that Lexi completely abandoned me when Anna was here! She just totally gravitated towards her and was like, this is my human now!
I think I have been forgiven though!
This past weekend, we spent a night away, which honestly felt like a spa/ hotel getaway, but it was a visit to my brother's house complete with set menus and waking up to Mimosas! My brother is a ginger himself and has grown an incredible clowder of ginger cats. They are all so calm and loving! Honestly, I don't know how he gets it right.
Check out these cat castles though! Kitty heaven!
There's Freya, who has some kind of annoying skin condition that has her ripping her face open, so she's had to get used to the cone until the vet can come up with a diagnosis and a treatment plan. It's been quite a road. It is suspected that she may have contracted ringworm, deep below the surface.
Then there's fudge and Morris, who look surprisingly alike, Morris being more ginger though while Fudge's ginger looks more like Chai (RIP little one 😔).
Then there's the star of the show, Nartjie!! Nartjie is the newest addition to the clowder and is ridiculously handsome and cute. Like he should be on the cover of expensive cat food bags 😂😍 He has intensely ginger fur, like I have never seen, and is a long haired cat. He is basically going to grow up to look like a lion! He is playful and loving and all things kittenness that just makes your heart melt!
Meanwhile, back at home, our neighbours wo are the parents of Meow Meow have adopted two more cats, the older of the two as become more adventurous, trying (and succeeding, thanks to me going "pspsps"🤦♀️) to get into my room for a cuddle!
The only problem was ow on earth do I get her back out? I tried pushing her gently out of the window and then closing it behind her, but I forgot to lock it. I then decided that if she want's to play it that way, she was going to have to face the gauntlet of tiny, but effectively territorial "bouncers," Lexi and Squeek,
Lexi and Squeek are both tiny cats. It's like they passed kittenhood and reached the in-between stage of what we call "cattenhood" which s basically the teenage stage of development, and they just stopped growing. Bubbles, who was Squeek's brother (he died of cat Leukemia in2020 along with my wonderful Levi). Were healthy and more adult cat sized and were almost a bit on the chonky side. In fact they all were since my mom fed them all way to much salmon and rich wet food! It took the girls a while to adapt to eating mostly pellets and wet food/ tuna as treats. They are regularly dewormed and de-flead, so I guess they're just like that!
We have tried to add to out own clowder three times now, all with unpleasant endings, to say the least. For now, my heart can't take anymore loss, so we are just appreciating the gorgeous cats we have. And I know the next cat will find us on it's own, rather than me seeking one out.
Here is Squeek being unusually affectionate and even posing for the camera last night with @matthew-williams.
