Hello Splinterlands Fam,

We had another Town Hall Meeting and I'm here to take some notes and thoughts on the matters talked. Here we go:

Here are the spekers list from the original

of Splinterlands:

Speakers:

Aggroed (Co-Founder)
Chatter (Director of Growth)
Nateaguila (Creative Director)
WeirdBeard (ESports Manager)
Bulldog1205 (Community Manager)
MLGAnakin & Lady Marionette (Community Gaming)
NicoThePico (Balthazar)
WafflesKitty (DYGYCON)
Fidel (General Partner at Side Door Ventures)

Somethings about what I'm doing

First of all I would like to add some more about what I feel and why I wanted to be in this community. I'm a designer but also an investigator, a researcher, kind of a self-motivated journalist in a way. I like digging in stuff and mine most important, it might be sweet, sometimes sour and sometimes bitter. But here we are on a train all together so I might not be objective but I see mostly sweet and hot stuff when I look at what's going on around Splinterlands. I will share some sore stuff about what I heard and maybe just a little pinch of bitter. Think it like when you add a little pinch of pepper in hot chocolate to make it one of the most wonderful drink out there ;)

And I like doing it in my own style, with lots of gifs and old-guy jokes, bear with me please 😁

Also I'm a 2017 entrar to the crypto world but still I took a break and started again on 2021. And Splinterlands was the most exciting thing I have ever seen out there I felt like Buster Keaton jumping on a moving train when I first started.

I want to say that it was very hard for me to watch townhalls total streams, I mostly don't have the time because of my full-time job, my marriage and all those responsibilities comes with those. But I found a way to watch and listen to every bit of detail this time, thanks that I woke up very early (6:00 am in the morning, GMT+3) and have time to watch and take notes between the time I get up, take the dog for a walk, have breakfast and go to work. Here are my notes on paper:

Yeah I got lots of notes and stuff here so grab some coffee ;)

Let's Move on to those Notes, Shall We:

Why web2 gamers having hard time to moving to Web3 and P2E

Actually that was a question from Aggroed to MLGAnakin & Lady Marionette. They said

there is a negative Hype on NFT's, web2 gamers don't like crypto.

Here what I would add is most players I was talking they are afraid of leaving their comfortable zone, don't know what this new ecosystems promise. There are people out there calling this GAMBLING and people that don't have any idea keeps holding on to that gambling gossip.

Also gaming companies make tons of money and they pour so much into game design. P2E games are community driven and they ad-up in time. And P2E has more depth than those games out there, because gaining is not a side hustle, it's part of the entertainment but it's a mine-zone, dangerous if you mess things up. Nate added that at the end of the talk, I'll cover that later.

Lady Marionette said

maybe start with rewards in real money, like a USDT or something.

But I don't think it would work that way, GameFi needs to have it's own dynamics, leaning on USD is not good.

Agrroed shared his story about leaving Heartstone and how he felt miserable because he need to leave all his investments. I had the same thing happened to me on SWGOH (Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes) but I felt it really turned into a game that sucks my blood, so I just send my collection to community and left in a lightning speed. I didn't want to sell them on 3rd markets with my account etc or something cause I think that thing is poisonous. I left 2k on that game but I don't regret leaving it and moved away. The only thing I thought was I should have met with Splinterlands earlier and that 2k would have made me at least 200k now.

Balthazar Research Report and 1M$ worth CL Packs

Ok, that report is precious. Check it out here:

I will cover that in another post but as a summary that's a very detailed research report and the reason why they are opening 1M$ worth CL Packs ;)

Nico said:

I started 6 months ago and this report made while we were playing the game. We don't write checks without playing.

So NicothePico and BullDog will open those packs, which as they mentioned very hard to do on a 2 hour stream :) but it's so exciting. You know I'm a pack opening addict so this is like watching someone doing this:

So I'll try to make time to watch it.

So they'll choose 5000 scholars, that's huge. Also Nico added that Balthazar Guild is giving 100$ worth of Balthazar tokens to scholars that stays for 12 months. So if you don't have other plans, joining Balthazar might be the most solid strategy.

For me, I'm more of a casual player so I don't want to fulfill demands, I might use the deserted account of my brother as an alt maybe to join their guild but still I don't do demands :) I don't know how much time they will ask for, still they might be casual, you should go ask for it!

The Chat between the team

So after talking to the guests Aggroed, Nate, Chatter and Weirdbeard started chatting. Here are my notes:

  • Aggroed: Go stocking up those vouchers while it's cheap. We got tons of stuff using vouchers, a celeb athlete will be coming with NFTs. I plan it to be a 1 BCX Nft this time. For vouchers first community didn't like it but now they are asking for more stuff with vouchers.

Some of you may like vouchers, some don't but personally Vouchers are keeping things steady. For a production that big you need wider time-frames for the events, you can't make new events every week so things need to spread in order to make time for the creative and the coders to make things better.

  • Weirdbeard was talking very enthusiasticly on tournaments. He used Titanic as an example at some point which is not a good example for what Splinterlands is ;) I know he wanted to express that it moves like a big whale, steady and strong, that's ok.

But there is something I don't agree here. Splinterlands have lot's of people all around the world. Different time zones. So while I'm at work, someone sleeping and others at dinner when you got tourneys. Also I get confused when I enter the tournament page. So I don't know, brawls are ok but tourneys are not so important for Splinterlands if you ask me. Also these are some advices:

  • Please make me know directly in the first page that I'm eligible to this and that tourney!
  • Also, I need countdowns on first page, wen start?
  • I think you need to send flash invitations to players that are online, has KYC and ask them if they want to grab a fast tourney. This way you can add better rewards too, till someone finds a gap 😂 Fast play style, fast tourneys!

Also, for me I like playing Splinterlands casually, whenever I go to the tournament page I use 15 minutes to find a suitable one, than I give up 🤣. That's just me maybe?

  • Chatter: Guild vs Guild tourneys. That's what would be interesting, meet somewhere at a time and fight, nice idea!

So, I think my Tournament idea is something like in between battle, brawls and tourneys. I don't know how to achieve that!

Also, Weirdbeard was saying something about tournaments are more important than World-Building. I think I'll just pretend I didn't hear that 😁

Also they said that people doesn't wanna go against alts, KYC people, K Y C !

  • Aggroed:

Next celebrity NFT will be an athlete.

So hear me out, athlete means fast so you know what I mean :) I think a very fast character would be awesome!

  • Aggroed:

Culture sets everything.

that's what I'm talking, I liked hearing that from the Bossman :)

And again Chatter or Weirdbeard said not caring about card prices, nope! We definitely care!

  • Nate:

Riot games wants to get into NFTs but the players are resistent. This gives us more time to prepare, because the old game companies will eventually enter web3.
Motion graphics, animations etc. for lore! Lore will be very important.

My favourite person Nate is basically saying without a good story and world-building nothing will work.

Huge Land Update

Landscapes are on the way.

Here is the land images shown:

Epic Lake. Source:Splinterlands

So he said something about buildings have platforms in order to be on lake.

  • Entire team on Lands, 1-2 weeks maybe. Actually that's huge news!

He was so energetic when he was talking about a new wave of changes coming to game. That is what I was waiting for, freshening up! Rank reward graphics, new creative assets, chest images... he said to share more in future town halls.

Also he gave an example of stylization of all things! He said we will have a new spice in Riftwatchers artwork, whiich they were talking about coming in mid-summer! Weekly stories are gearing up day by day, you can feel that too! Everythings will be different!

Child of the Forest eye candy shows us what will it look like:

  • Aggroed:

This new changes have giant benefits to us, we want a sticky experience for the players. Players should feel like they can't leave, emotional attachment! Rich culture, animations and series will come!

All these talks really moved me so much, I love you guys:

DYGYCON 8

WafflesKitty was a little bit sick I guess. She talked about 5 big sponsors I guess, and lots of giveaways!

DYGYCON is a gateway to crypto projects, talks, giveaways, and community networking

Q&A, but mostly the answers

Cause I'm lazy to go through and find those questions on Discord 😁 So here are the answers instead!

  • All SPS owners will have vote on everything after airdrop and governance upgrades.

  • Your Capture Rate is universal, you need to focus on one format or share your capture rate to both.

  • New tourneys with very different dynamics might come.

  • Matt balances the game so he checks the new legendaries too. Stats of the Legendaries designed by the players will be well balanced.

  • Creatives sharing their art processes live, it will be wonderful! Chatter said also maybe devs doing live coding, amazing!

  • SPS drop schedules asked, nobody knows. Actually I came up to smthng like that recently so I can share it here:
There is a post here from @dalz explains so much

  • Waka cards will move to splinterlands market, and after a fixed period all unsold cards will be burned!

  • Legendary mana 6-8 nobody knows, maybe they don't tell ;)

  • In Splinterlands there are 100 staff, 52 americans. Most of them are full-timers!

  • Celebrity Athlete NFT will be 1 BCX, still TBD.

  • Aggroed said they don't plan to leave nor they don't plan to stay forever on Hive blockchain.
I think he just said that in order to underline that Splinterlands and hive gives each other a lot energies and they need to keep each others pace!

  • Nate talking about skins and he showed some Hill Giant art! He told amazing stuff, like an NFt wearing different stuff chars will wear items according to achievements, bought accessories, giveaways, etc...

    Hill Giant art Source:Splinterlands
    Hill Giant art Source:Splinterlands

  • Nate said they don't want to mess-up the game mechanics. Everything needs to be in harmony. This is a fast paced game, chars need to be clear, understandable and lightweight!

Last Minute Guest: Fidel

Entering crypto in 2011 he calls himself a Crypto-Native (he definetely is). General Partner of the Side Door Ventures (VC Firm) and is a big player/investor in Splinterlands. Owns several regions :) He said he has only sold assets to buy more cards. He has plans on continuing to buy more and more Splinterlands assets. Also Side Door Ventures loaned the 1M in card packs to Balthazar to fund their scholar model and help build an ESports program.

Gamefi is the perfect amalgamation of all things crypto. The game should focus on a true win-win between players, guilds and the game itself.

Aggroed:

Entertainment is the most valuable commodity! When you think everythings falling apart, SPS is going down etc. Zoom out and stop worrying. Splinterlands is a giant and we try to move it steadily!
