Bonnet orchid day on Blackbutt Creek and mating swarms : January 8 2026

Forecast is for a hot day - that got me out walking earlier than normal - was not escaping the heat anyway - 33C at 11am

Shuffling photos a bit - this from later on - fits the title better

Walked down to Blackbutt Creek - it is mostly shaded and a little cooler in the rainforest sections

Red crucifix orchid in a garden on the way. One never knows where the orchid for the day will come from

This magpie allowed me to get quite close as it fluffed its wings to try to cool

Chose to walk the length of the creek - first flash of blue - not a weed I am told

Did find a few native violets - for my granddaughter Violette

Found a new track going down to the creek - not really a spot to go walking and it is new

Now we know - sewer overflow down near the creek. Sydney Water made the track and the place still smells of urine

First bonnet of the day - bonnet orchid - two plants facing off

Step back photo - two plants with the distinctive leaf (mixed in with a few vine leaves)

Dragon fly posed briefly - bright sun was hard work

A few shots of the grand trees along the track- yellow trunk colour is distinctive - both lost their bark

Just a few trigger flowers left - maybe a 2nd showing - this one with one flower opening

Did find one hyacinth orchid flowering with just one flower - dipodium variegatum. First walk of the season there were at least 20 budding along the track - only one today

A splash of cream and some delicate form to each individual flower

Crimson rosella posed a short spell in a few spots

Walked past a tree with a horde of bugs. Did not get close to the first one - maybe bees. Found another tree with the same phenomenon

Zoomed in - plague beetles - they form mating swarms - there you go

The magpies loved the easy pickings on the adjacent green.

Early walk left me a clear afternoon to work on Internet Marketing stuff. I am promoting a new product called The Quick Start Funnel Guide. Part of the process is to create bonuses - I use an AI tool from my friend Kevin Fahey - it creates the HTML page for the bonuses. Something did not look right with the bullet points. Took a lot of digging to find what was going on. Link to icon site did not work - bullet point was a tiny screen saying "file not found". Fixed it

That took hours - did get the review post written with the bonus page linked - Funnel Launch Accelerator is the bonus

Did cook dinner - a bit of a cheat Kashmiri Coconut chicken curry out of a jar but a bit jazzed up. Worked fine as it was my wife's idea and chef did not have to think much. On a hot day thinking is at a premium
