I was going to take some personal pictures for this post, but one thing led to the other and the day was over before I even knew it. Crazy how time flies, huh? Yeah, I know.

Anyway, when it comes to dressing for me, it’s something that goes with my mood. And I mean that in every sense of the word. I consider my feelings more than that of the place I’m going, or more than what people will think when I get there. Saying that I dress for my comfort, sounds like an understatement but that’s just what it is.

I’m the kind of person that can wear my Christmas clothes to lectures on a hot Wednesday afternoon, and then wear faded shirts and jeans on Christmas day. Dressing has been something that has given me stress because for me, as long as it’s clean then I can definitely wear it.

I’m most comfortable in joggers or shorts, and then polos are good for me. I own a couple jeans as well. Then, with a scattering of senators here and there, I managed to get by. As I write this, I don’t have a single shoe. I gave up on them when I outgrew my last shoes. That particular one hurt me a lot. Shoe of over 37HBD, it started to tighten my feet within six months. And if there’s one thing I hate, it’s being uncomfortable.

Eventually, I had to give it to my Dad and he’s been using it ever since. For me, I make do with palm slippers. They’re like my lucky charms because I use them for everything. No matter where I’m going or who I’m going to meet, I wear palm slippers. I have the leather kind I wear for my more serious meetings, so I can polish them and they won’t look so flashy.

Honestly, I just love palm slippers. They’re easy and comfortable, so easy to wear and take off. You won’t have to spend minutes shoving your ankle in or out.

Also, I wear sandals. Or rather, I have sandals. I just hardly wear them. I had to get sandals because I swore off shoes and I needed something that would give me some semblance of casual looks when I needed it. However, since I bought it, I’ve not worn it up to ten times. Yeah… sucks.

I know you might mention that owning a shoe is important, I know that. I’ll be needing shoes soon when I have to defend my project, that’s not something you can do wearing slippers or sandals for that matter. However, I’m just not going to stress myself. I’ll simply buy something cheap, not over 5HBD, and wear it just once. When I go to the market, I’ll see second-hand shoes I can easily buy. I use it for that day and dump it. If anything comes up later on that will require me to wear shoes, the same thing will happen.

My dressing is basically how the spirit leads. Someone once told me I dress too casually to church. I just wear a shirt and jeans, with a few of the buttons open, and then a bushy head of hair that’s just so stubborn it never looks combed. I was advised to tuck in my shirt and wear shoes, so I’ll look nice and fine like a good boy. Hehe… I’m sorry ma, I’m not a good boy.

Back then in high school, we were one of those who hated tucking in our shirts. The longest our shirts were tucked was for the duration of the assembly, even as we were marching to class we were already pulling the shirt out and popping the first button open. My friends and I honed our senses sharply, once a teacher was around we could easily tuck in our shirts in seconds and they’d have no idea. Other times, we just fold the tails of the shirt inwards, giving the impression of a tucked-in shirt.

Just saying all this to let you know it’s how I’ve always been. It was my own form of “big boy”. Polished sandals, white socks, half-buttoned shirt to show off our white singlet, and the bad boy aura. Looking good was so easy back then and I like to believe I killed it… and now it still is. As long as you choose to do it on your terms. Besides, I’m an engineer, tucked in shirts and ties are not meant for people in my profession.

So, however the spirit guides, I dress and it has always come through for me because I do this for myself and for no one else. As long as I’m not indecent, and the clothes are not dirty or torn, then I’m good. It’s not like you’ll beat me, is it?

I don’t know just how long I can go on like this, and it’s even worse because I rarely go out so I don’t have reasons to want to buy new clothes and such. Even when I do, I just wear whatever I want, go out, and come back in.

I’m not gonna lie though, I wanna do better. I wanna be better. I want to start paying more attention to my dress and looks. But as I said, it’s still under the file marked “I Want To”. And boy… There are so many things listed in that file.

Anyway, the future does hold a lot of mysteries and anything can happen. I can end up becoming someone who freaks out about what to wear, or I will just remain this way. I guess we’ll have to see how it all plays out.
