Volkswagen macht gerade schwere Zeiten durch. Da kommt so eine Meldung wie gerufen. UBER will in den USA eine Robotaxi-Flotte aufbauen und VW stellt dazu die Fahrzeuge ID. Buzz AD zur Verfügung.

VW und selbstfahrende Autos? Bei dem Thema wurden bisher meist ganz andere Namen genannt. Aber wie es aussieht, haben die Wolfsburger still und heimlich sich auf diesem Gebiet weiter entwickelt.

Im Rahmen der Partnerschaft sollen in den kommenden 10 Jahren Tausende der vollelektrischen und selbstfahrenden ID. Buzz AD von Volkswagen in mehreren US-Städten auf der Uber-Plattform eingesetzt werden. Los Angeles wird dabei als erste Stadt den Auftakt machen. Die Testphase der Fahrzeuge ist für das Jahr 2025 geplant, während der kommerzielle Start in Los Angeles für 2026 vorgesehen ist.

Die eingesetzten Fahrzeuge, der ID. Buzz AD, sind moderne, vollelektrische Microbusse, die mit neuester autonomer Fahrtechnologie ausgestattet sind. Die Software und das Betriebssystem für das autonome Fahren werden von MOIA, der Mobilitätsmarke von Volkswagen, entwickelt. In der Anfangsphase der Tests und auch beim Marktstart werden zur Sicherheit noch menschliche Operatoren an Bord sein, bevor nach und nach der vollständig fahrerlose Betrieb – abhängig von den gesetzlichen Genehmigungen – eingeführt wird.

Es wird also noch einige Testfahrten und Genehmigungen brauchen, bis diese Fahrzeuge dann wirklich autonom im Auftrag von Uber durch die Städte fahren. Aber das ist schon ein großer Schritt in eine Zukunft mit autonomen Fahrzeugen.

Bleibt dann aber noch die Frage, wo diese VW-Fahrzeuge gefertigt werden, in Deutschland oder USA. Trump mit seinem Zoll-Chaos könnte da den beiden Firmen doch noch etwas in die Suppe spucken. Es bleibt also spannend.

But the question remains as to where these VW vehicles will be manufactured: in Germany or the USA. Trump, with his customs chaos, could still throw a wrench in the works for both companies. So, it remains exciting.
