Coffee Musings | Coffee and Flowers

The start of this year was mark by the political turmoil that comes around every so often when elections come by. It isn't a surprise that things transpire and usually nothing happens. This was the case, but tensions were high. Protests sprouted around many in many city and there was as show of force in the streets with the army and police around strategic places. People were detained and some are still missing.
Amidst this usual chapter in the Venezuelan reality, I was waiting for @octocel to come back from a trip to Barquisimeto. Her return was delayed as it coincided with the critical date of the protests, so she came back over a week after when the whole tension thing was for sure nearly dead. And that was the good news for traveling.
As the guy waiting for his girlfriend to come back home, I wasn't going to let the political situation and whatnot to ruin the chance to do something nice. It had been 11 years since I last gave someone flowers. And the gesture on that occasion wasn't even romantic. A friend finished college and I gave her some sunflowers. She went about carrying her flowers with pride and having everyone be jealous or ask about the flowers. That was a fun day.
So, once I knew my girlfriend had arrived to the city, I set my feet in motion to buy the flowers for the date. We had something to eat before the coffee, but that is some material for another story. I did my best to get some pretty flowers and the ladies who sold them did some nice arrangement to get them to look extra good. Thus, I had a nice surprise for her homecoming.
If you are wondering about her reaction, she told me she was about to cry. It is a gesture non of her previous couples had done before. And I was left wondering who doesn't like giving flowers. It might be cliche or else, but it is for sure a nice token of appreciation. And in this case, something she had been wanting for a really long time. It is nice to know being my usual self at dating pays off. And of course, such a nice time had to be sealed off with a nice cup of coffee. A nice chat. And the looks and giggles that make others feel uneasy at shows of affection in public. And between sips, I learned all about the things she did during her stay with her college friends. Gossips. Stories. Events. The new tattoo on her forearm. Opportunities and more.
