and so it begins: Truckers threaten boycott of NYC... will they actually do it though?

After the court ruling against Trump in NYC a bunch of people called "Truckers for Trump" had threatened to cease all deliveries to New York City. A move that if they actually did it, would in fact be extremely bad news for the Big Apple. Here's the thing though, as much as these guys and their bosses may like Trump, I would imagine they like getting paid money more and that's why I think that while there will be a few people here and there that will refuse delivery to NYC, that for the most part this wont amount to a hill of beans.

I'd sincerely like it if the did do it though, just to show that politicians and whoever else that it is the people, not the leaders, that truly run this country.

I know a few truckers, some short haul and some long haul and as you might be able to guess, this demographic is overwhelmingly if not entirely, conservative. I don't believe they have an organized political union of sorts but if they actually were to completely boycott NYC, this would be disastrous for the city. Except for a plant on a roof here and there, there is no food that is actually made in NYC and the logistics of getting all of those products into the shops in the city must be an absolute nightmare. Now imagine if all of a sudden the products were not making their way to the distribution centers at all?

I don't think that every New Yorker should have to pay for the actions of the few but it would send a very powerful message to the people in power if they did do it. Despite that, I don't like for everything to be political and if they were to do something like this it would only serve to demonize the truckers themselves and the people they work for and with. It's not like after a "siege" via delivery boycotts over a couple of weeks would encourage the court to go out there and say "yeah, sorry for that, we changed our minds and we are reversing the ruling!" While I personally believe that the ruling against Trump is entirely political, courts can't simply jump up and change their minds later.

I don't believe the justice system really works at all in this country but I know that it definitely doesn't work like that.

DJT posted a clip of some truck driver named "Chicago Ray" talking about how they were not going to deliver anything to NYC anymore but since getting a ton of attention, he has kind of walked back his statements. It was an swear-filled rant that didn't appear to be scripted at all and honestly, it didn't do Ray any favors as far as people who are attempting to determine his intellect. That being said, the truck drivers that I know aren't book smart and they don't really care about any of that. It may surprise you to find out that most of these guys, in particular the long-haul drivers, probably make substantially more money than you do.

That's Chicago Ray and overnight he has become somewhat of a celebrity. He may end up getting to meet his hero because of this but honestly, I don't think that much else is going to come from it. While drivers and even the companies they work for might be upset about the fact that their candidate of choice is being targeted unfairly, they most likely - and especially the logistic companies - enjoy getting paid a lot more than they like helping Trump or any other candidate for that matter.

I don't know how the trucking industry works but I doubt that it is a question of "what route do you want to take this time Ray?" I would imagine that like most jobs, what it is that you have to do is determined by your employer and if you refuse to do it, you could face termination. The only way that this sort of boycott would actually work is if there was a very limited amount of people out there that are actually qualified to do the job. I have no idea if that is the case but like Ray says in his clip "do you know how f**king hard it is to get into NYC?" Now that's something that probably holds some water. There might only be a handful of drivers that are capable of navigating those routes so there could be something there.

Things like this just show how incredibly divided the country is right now because of politics. I'd like to see something come of this but it would all be in vain and people who would suffer from it are not the people that the truckers probably want to suffer from it.

Let's go ahead and split the country into separate parts. I wouldn't complain about that at all. But then again a lot of that is because I know which part of it my state would end up in :)
